One of the great honours at University is picking the music during pre-drinks. If your iPod or spotify playlist is the chosen one, this is your big night. But, with great power comes great responsibility. The music at a pre-drinks can define the night. You don’t want everyone feeling sober and slightly emotional after listening to David Gray’s greatest hits for an hour. And you definitely don’t want your mates knowing you have the full back catalogue of T.a.t.u on your iPod!
You need to get the balance just right - between new hits and classics; between cheesy numbers and R’n’B. You don’t want the ultimate rejection of your playlist to be replaced halfway through the pre! Think what it could do to your self-esteem!
Luckily, at Student Hut we are here to help. After hearing from students up and down the country and having experienced one or two pre-drinks ourselves, we have devised the ultimate top 10 songs to get people pumped, buzzing, feeling it before you hit the town.
1) Ignition (remix) - R. Kelly:
Everyone just seems to know the words making it a classic sing-a-long after a few drinks.
2) I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing - Aerosmith:
The ultimate bromance song. A slower number for a pre-drinks with you best buds. Full of 80s power stances and emotion!
3) Yeah! - Usher:
Great to get your dance-on before the club. Plus, studies show that 90% of guys secretly want to be able to dance like Usher...
4) Bad Touch (Discovery Channel) - The Bloodhound Gang:
Everyone knows the infamous chorus, but many will try to rap the verses as well. Most will fail miserably!
5) I’ll be Ready (Baywatch) - The Hoff:
The drum beats in the introduction just tells you this is a great pre-drinks song! Plus, it’s a tradition for guys (and sometimes girls) to take off their tops giving it a little extra pre-drink buzz. This is a staple for many student clubs but that doesn’t mean that you can’t whip it out early! Anyone for cheese?
6) Ridin’ Solo - Jason Derulo:
It makes all the singletons out there pumped for the night ahead (and less bad about being single).
7) Billionaire - Travie McCoy feat. Bruno Mars:
Because what is better than being billionaire?! Everyone likes fantasising about being rich, especially if you do History and have little chance of it actually happening!
8) Here Comes the Boom - Nelly:
This maybe more of song to use as entry music for UFC, but it’s a great song to get everyone going. Just don’t get it confused with Kevin James’ film of the same name because that’s definitely not worth watching.
9) Sexy and I Know It - LMFAO:
This song needs no blurb. It is a classic song for any night out. And gives you a chance to wiggle. What more could you want?!
10) Let Me Entertain You - Robbie Williams:
Most people would go for Angels but for me Let Me Entertain You is a better song. Plus, it’s a bit more of a rock number getting you pumped up and ready to head out.
That concludes our pre-drink playlist. So for the next pre, put all of these on a playlist and you can’t go wrong!
