We are calling on the UK government to re-think their plans for using the Teaching Excellence Framework as a vehicle for introducing variable fees and to freeze tuition fees for both current and future students.
Under the new bill, the Teaching Excellence Framework’s second phase will create an elitist two-tier higher education system by imposing fee caps on lower ranked institutions, while allowing others to further increase their fees. Prospective students will have to choose between an unreasonably high level of student debt and universities that are deprived of the financial means to improve.
There's several things you can do. If you're near London, click here to find out more info about the NUS demonstration which will be on November 19th. We strongly encourage all students to show solidarity and attend if you can.
You can also sign the petition below which will be served to the government. We have already had over 15,000 people sign which means the government will have to respond. When we hit 100,000 the issue will have to be debated in parliament. Click below to find out more information about the proposed changes.
