3rd Year

The overall content of the course was good however the way the department was run was shocking. We were left without lecturers, module coordinators, course leaders and progress tutors.

We had inadequate support and tuition throughout this degree, many modules we virtually had to self teach. We are all aware of independent study but I believe this university takes it too far with students doing everything themselves. There are a few staff members who are enthusiastic and actually want to be there but it appears the rest have lost all interest and passion for what they do.. Basically as this was the first year running this course and we were the test run.

If you are interested in this course I would strongly advise you look elsewhere.

The teaching is of a good standard and all module content is made as interesting as possible (depending on student's personal preferences of course) and the lecturers are all passionate about the subjects they teach. One to one help is always on offer and lecturers know you by name if you are someone who actively seeks help. Assessments are varied from essays and reports to leaflets and presentations, so there are things to suit everyone's strengths. The uni is generally moving away from exams as a form of assessment but the exams that I have sat I have felt well prepared for. The two placements we have done have been a great learning curve and I believe will make me more employable when I start to apply for jobs. I have enjoyed the course as a whole and would recommend it to someone looking for a psychology degree.

During level 4 and 5 you will experience diffferent ways to conduct research as well as an opportunity to complete two 6 week placements either at home or around Leeds. The lecturers are so friendly and you know that you could always just grab a cup of coffee and chat to anyone of them. Level 6 allows you to choose 3 modules and conduct your own research. There are various modules to choose from such as; counselling, health, forensic, childhood and society, mental health etc.
