1. The Apple Education Store
We don’t need to tell you how good Apple products are. They’ve been leading the field in design and functionality for years, and that doesn’t look likely to change any time soon. Although you might think their products might be a bit much for a student budget, students can get a discount of as much as 10% off on the Education Store. If you’re looking for a special treat or a laptop upgrade, this is probably the best tech option going.
2. Bank Accounts
Every major UK bank offers an incentive for you to set up a student account with them. While you shouldn’t judge your banking decision only on the freebie, our pick of the best is HSBC. When you sign up with them you’ll get a £60 Amazon voucher and a year of Amazon Prime benefits. Other options to consider are Natwest (gets you a free National Express coachcard) and Santander (gets you a four year 16-25 Railcard).
3. 16-25 Railcard
Okay, so this one isn’t specifically a student discount but it will apply to all students (unless you’re a child prodigy or a mature student, sorry guys). It’s also the number one way to save on train travel across the UK because it gets you a third off the full price of any ticket. It’s only £30 for one year (or £70 for three) so you’ll make the cost back in no time and you can make journeys to see family and friends at a much lower cost.
There are so many fashion discounts for students that we’ve had to group them all together. Topshop, ASOS, Office, New Look and more all offer year round discounts of 10% and regularly run special offers on top of that. This makes it easier to pick something new even if you’re running low on student loan.
5. Flights at StudentUniverse
For our money, StudentUniverse are the best place to get flights as a student. They offer student discounts with some of the biggest airlines in the world, including British Airways, Etihad, and Virgin Atlantic. StudentUniverse also run some great seasonal offers: right now you can get £15 off any flight as a pre-Summer special. This is ideal if you’re looking for a holiday but want to steer clear of budget airlines.
6. Krispy Kreme
This is probably our favourite freebie out there. By signing up to the Krispy Kreme website you can get yourself a free Krispy Kreme, either from Tesco or another outlet. There’s almost certainly somewhere near you to pick one up so this is an easy (not to mention affordable) way to treat yourself.
Love it or hate it, there’s a good chance you’ll end up at McDonalds on a few occasions throughout your student life. When you’re there, make sure you pick up a free burger, mayo chicken or McFlurry. All you have to do is show your student card and you’re entitled to claim one free item every time you visit. Just be careful you don’t over do it...
