8 beauty products that'll save you in the summer heat

This summer, don’t fall into the trap of oiliness and racoon eyes… Make sure your face won't be dripping with these fantastic beauty products.

Summer is awesome, but sweating is not. Just when you think you’ve finished your makeup, boom. Sun. You worry about your mascara running, your foundation transferring, and your highlighter making you look not dewy, but oily. Luckily there are some great products out there that are both affordable and practical to save us from that dreaded "melted" look. Here are 8 items to get you started.

1. Rimmel Lasting Breathable Foundation

You have to get your bases covered. With some hotter days (or holidays to hotter areas) coming up, you need a base that won’t slide off your face as soon as you step out into the sun, and this lightweight foundation really does the trick. It’s also great on a skincare basis because it doesn’t clog your pores as much as higher coverage foundations. Less clogged pores = less acne = a happier you.

2. Rimmel Stay Matte Powder

I have to say, I am quite biased towards Rimmel. Can you blame me though?! Affordable, effective, no-fuss design, available literally anywhere… What’s not to love? This product will keep the inevitable summer oiliness at bay so you don’t have to keep worrying about your face looking a mess after a few hours under the sun. Just don’t forget to add some highlighter and bronzer to avoid looking too matte.

3. Maybelline Colossal Waterproof Mascara

If you’re lucky enough to be going to the beach this summer, you’re gonna need some waterproof mascara. No one wants to emerge from the water looking like a racoon, and the easiest way to prevent that is by investing in a waterproof mascara. This one by Maybelline volumizes and cares for your lashes with added collagen, but don’t put on too many coats! As with any other mascara, that can cause clumps.

4. Makeup Revolution Tammi Tropical Paradise Palette

Summer makeup means one thing: colours! Yes, in the summer months bright oranges, flaming reds, and electric blues become totally acceptable in any occasion for eye makeup. While it might seem a bit daunting to use such vibrant colours on a daily basis, there are so many YouTube tutorials out there for various skill levels that you can watch to ease yourself into it.

The great thing about the Tammi palette is that there are plenty of more wearable colours in it so if you find yourself cowering away from the brighter ones, you still have a lot of shades to work with.

5. Soap and Glory Peach Pout Balmy Lipsticks

Pigment: check. Summery coral-ness: check. Mouth-watering peach scent: check. Available at boots, this little lippy will complement just about every makeup look you attempt this summer. It’s not uncomfortable like a matte lipstick but has enough pigment to last through just about anything. It’s particularly great for those days when you don’t want to wear too much makeup, but want some colour to look nice and healthy.

6. Glossier Cloud Paint

This one’s a bit more expensive and harder to get than the others (although Glossier ships super fast), but the blend and subtleness of the shades make it totally worth it. Compared to other cream blushes, this one is much easier to use, and personally I’ve never had the common problem of putting on too much. They just came out with 2 new shades, and they’re always doing bundles that save you a bit of money, so hop on to their website now!

7. Maybelline Master Chrome Highlighter

Talk about a blinding highlight. There are so many highlighters out there, but for summer I’d recommend going for a super pigmented one to get your face really poppin' with the help of sunlight. This one comes in 4 shades and is used by makeup artists and influencers alike, and despite its affordability, it delivers just like higher-end alternatives. It comes in a cool geometric design too!

8. Rimmel 60 Seconds Super Shine Nail Varnish

It’s not summer until you wear open-toed sandals or flip-flops. Do you want your toes to look raggedy? No. Cue your saviour once again, Rimmel. For £2 you can get just about any colour you want, and they even have glittery ones that somehow don’t look tacky at all (my personal favourite is Disco Diva which looks great both on its own and as a topcoat). If you want to splurge a bit you can opt for the Gel finish kind, but honestly, this one is hard to beat in terms of cheapness and quality. It also allows you to experiment a bit with more daring colours, and who knows, maybe you’ll end up finding your signature colour?

Makeup can make you feel confident, and its literally for everyone who wants to use it! Why not make this the summer that you start experimenting more with the plethora of products you have access to in your local Boots or Superdrug? With a little bit of practice, you’ll be feeling like this:
