When summer rolls around with its hay-fever and hungry insects and unrelenting heat, you need to know how to keep cool in hot weather.

At the moment, all we can think about is how hot and sticky everything is, so we’ve put together an article on how to keep cool in hot weather. We apologise if it gets a little delirious near the end.

1. Stay hydrated

Yes, we know it’s boring, but if you’re spending lots of time sweating then you’re losing a lot of valuable body moisture. Keep a bottle of water on hand (or squash if, like me, you think water is pointless because it just tastes like the inside of your mouth).

2. Grab a fan

Electric fans can be expensive to run and impractical to lug about with you (unless you’re one of those weirdos with a plug-in phone fan). Grab an old-school foldable one and flap to your heart’s content.

3. Damp everything down

If you spritz your sheets with a little water before bed, then they’ll almost instantly feel cool on your skin. And if you spritz your curtains, then that hot wind coming through your window will be transformed into a cool and refreshing breeze.

4. Ice cube bowls!

If you do use a fan, pop a bowl of ice in front of it for an extra chill factor.

5. Ice cube wrists!

Put ice on your pulse points for an in-built cooling system.

6. Be a vampire

During the day, keep those blinds and curtains pulled so that the sun can’t ruin your nice cool room.

7. Freeze your bedding

Not rock-solid, but shove it in the freezer for 20 minutes before bed and you’ll a) have sheets Elsa would be proud of and b) oust any lurking clothes moths.

8. Don't blow dry your hair

There's nothing worse than pointing a cylinder of hot air at your face first thing in the morning.
