Exams are over, graduation is round the corner and suddenly the realisation has hit that you’re moving back home in a few weeks.

While it may seem like a loss of freedom and a return to endless nagging by your parents, it’s actually not all doom and gloom. Here’s a list to convince you that moving home after uni isn’t actually the worst thing ever.

1. Cheap/free rent

Obviously, this one depends on your parents, but I guarantee that the rent your parents charge you (if they even charge you) will be a pittance compared to living on your own! So make the most of it and save (or spend) your pennies to your heart's content...

2. Laundry

Finally a working washing machine! Even a place to dry your clothes that isn’t surrounded by a beer-sodden carpet, mould and the general bad odour of certain housemates. If you’re really lucky, your mum may even wash and iron your clothes! Result.

3. Home cooking

Mum and Dad's cooking!!! You no longer have to slum it by living off pot noodles, beans on toast and pizza. However, it may mean eating a few vegetables – you can’t have everything after all, and it's worth it to avoid scurvy.

4. Heating

You never know the meaning of the word ‘freezing’ until you live in a student house. But back at home you don’t have to worry about this as your parents probably have the heating on constantly – even in July.

5. Pets

Is there anything more comforting than spending time with your pet?

6. Home Comforts

We all become a little attached to our childhood home. Whether it’s the pictures on your wall, the luxury of having a TV in your room or even your childhood teddy bears – they do make a difference.

So next time your parents drive you insane with nagging, just remember that there are some benefits to moving back home…
