Being able to study both courses at once wad important to me and so I'm very happy with Derby offering the joint honours pathway. Content for ECS is very engaging and relevant (types of abuse, language development, family dynamics) and the lecturers, I found, all had a genuine passion when teaching which helps to keep me focused on the topic. As psychology is my main subject, I cover many more topics there (sleep, schizophrenia, memory, developmental aspects). The lectures are very informative but rather fast paced and so it's hard to keep up sometimes. Structure is fab however with seminars straight after the lecture to reinforce what we just learnt. Workshops are great in helping us do the same although they're not as effective when less students attend. The assessment for both ECS and psychology is mostly coursework based. In my two years of studying I've only sat 3 exams. I was told there were no exams in psychology and yet I've found myself sitting two which was a let down- however, the lecturers ensued we were well prepared for them in each seminar and workshop leading up to it. Overall, I enjoy my course and both subjects but it would be even better if we had some trips out introduced.
