Terrible! Bad! Catasrophic! My stay there was a nightmare. From the early beginning before even came to the UK for my studies, I booked the room from United Students and they sold the accomodation without asking us if we want to change buildings. The new company was asking me to pay the whole year up front or to pay for a UK guarantor although I had agreed on two instalments with United. It was the university which represented me from abroad and demand my contract with United to be respected. Arriving at Mealmarket, I found a flat in a completely mess. The frost did not work, kitchen appliances were in a awful condition and the kitchen was extremely dirty from previous residents. My flatmates and I complainted a lot until they agreed to restore the frost but the situation in the kitchen remained the same all the year around. The cleaners cleaned only surfaces and not the fridge, the oven and the corridor. The staff was the worst ever. When they realized that I am not willing to stay another year there, they were ignoring me. On my last day at Mealmarket they did not even say hello! And at the top of this they lie to me that they have released my deposit and it was the deposit scheme's responsibility to inform and return back the money. I was waiting for a whole week and when I called the deposit scheme I found that they did not released my deposit! So I applied for that and they replied after 10 days!!! I was really lucky to take back my deposit whlie other ex residents did not manage to take their money back Exravagant rent in a city with the property market in criss. Stupid socal events with none to attend. However, great location, good quality of rooms with always hot water and internet.

the people are very snobby and have no concept of living with others / paying for things. Halls are very overpriced for what you get, however reception staff are on the whole lovely.

Very good with giving our services such as free pizza and breakfast however the kitchen broke a lot and it was quite pricy.

Made some great friends here and the staff members were always very welcoming. I think the only down side was that often washing machines and dryers would be broken or people would just leave their items in them and also could be quite loud as well if there was a party going on. Fire alarms also went off at unsociable hours

This is my second year living in Mealmarket Exchange. It has the best location compared to many other accommodations because of 2 minute walk to the bus stop when you are in a rush early in the mornings. Also, city centre and supermarket is so close, you don’t need to worry about buying groceries for a week in advance. Maintenance is very kind and helpful. Reception people are there 24/7. According to my friends, their accommodation heaters are weak and they have to buy electric heaters. I have never had a problem with heating, my room is always warm and nice. Overall, 10/10

Whilst studying in Aberdeen for university, I stayed at Mealmarket Exchange. The location was absolutely perfect, we had a supermarket right next door to us which was very convenient. We were only about a 10 minute walk before we were right in the city centre, with night clubs, bars, shopping centres all being within a perfect walking condition. The halls themself, we lived with 5 people in total either all girls rooms or all boys room. The rooms were as you would expect for Student accommodation, a 3/4 sized bed, desk, chair, wardrobe, drawers and these ones had an ensuite. Overall the room was very satisfactory, it was very expensive however it did its job, we also had the communal kitchen which had everything we would need and cleaners came in every week to have a quick clean up. Halls can be quite daunting especially moving in with people you won’t know, however for me my room and the people I lived with were perfect, we all got a long with the occasional squabble, as expected since we are girls, but it was an amazing social experience we all still keep in contact and it has been one of the best experiences ever!

Compared to other halls in the same location, they were above standard. They were in the centre of the city, round the corner from loads of bus routes and behind a Morrison's. For social activities, the old fire station has the facilities for those. Where as you would always have at least one block having a party before hitting town. Though the overall cost was high. At the time it was £524 a month for just the room. That included the WiFi but at a basic and sometimes unusable speed therefore for a better connection you had to pay for and was constantly crashing. They had onsite washing and drying facilities these again were an add on an expensive one. You were looking at any were between £3-5 per wash cycle depending on how clean you want your clothes then another £1.20 per dry and you needed minimum 2 to dry your clothes. This option was all that was available, when moving into halls. My bursary did not cover it and I had to get a full time job just to live and study. Since I left the cost of this halls went up. I am unsure how some people pay this without a job, I never stayed my full year as I couldn't afford to pay, work and study. Although I had a great for years in Aberdeen. I recommend all that wish to move to ensure they are financial able too. They are still very much a oil culture therefore prices are still high.
