Eliot College

Rooms were tiny, a kitchen the size of a closet, no oven, no toaster, we all starved pretty much all year round, halls were built by jail designer, but it brought everyone together, no one suffered alone, we went through it together and it was the best experience I've ever had and would not change anything in the slightest

If you choose Eliot when you go to the University of Kent you know that you have chosen the cheapest option. When I started in 2015 it was at least, once you counted that you're food comes included in the price! In fact, alas, the 'kitchenettes' advertised with your accomodation are claustrophobic cupboards with a tiny fridge full of food that other people's mothers have given them (sure to be chucked a month later after going forgotten and replaced with take away). Getting to know your hallmated is also an experience, as you glance at them sideways in the corridor, or wait to use the 1 toilet between 9. But not all is bad, the hall is clean! Really, because there is no cooking going on and the cleaners are there to save the day scrubbing that 50 year old toilet every week. Also, you get to eat at any outlet on campus with your vouchers, not much may I add, 4 pounds a meal is definitely not relatable to today's economy, so expect to be getting skinnier, and forget fresh fruit and veg - only fried starchy cheap stuff for students! One last piece of advice, try not getting lost the first week if you venture around the most labyrinthine building on campus bar her sister Rutherford, and enjoy being close to lectures, essentials and Venue, you might even get the pleasure of going to your seminar in your pijamas.

Room is a very good size and because you're catered it is so much cheaper and affordable. You don't really do pre drinks in the halls unless in someone's room but you tend to go to house parties for that.

Eliot is located in the main campus, so it’s very convenient, just 5 mins walk to the library, bus station and the Venue. Also, because Eliot is the law school, so law students will have most of their seminars in the building, which is very convenient. Also, there’s a lovely canteen at the bottom floor of Eliot, opening from Monday to Friday. All rooms in Eliot have shared bathroom and are catered, the toilet is shared with 7 students and there are two showers per flat. There is no kitchen in the flat but there’s a pantry with a microwave, mini fridge and a sink.

Eliot college is generally regarded as being one of if not the worst halls of residence on campus, but personally considering the price and food package included it was perfect for a student. Rooms were a fair size, altough the general decor was more a prison cell. Good enough for basic student living and always had good internet, the wired connection for my gamea console was fantastic. If they gave the place an uplift it'd be perfect, being right next to venue and at the centre of campus.

Location is perfect right in the centre of campus. The kitchenette is not good as it does not allow us to cook proper food and we have no communal area so is less social. However, the meal plan allows us to go out for dinner as a group and socialise.
