Many types of room all with sinks, mine used to be a shared room but is now for 1 person so was very large. The location is on the Bailey- the oldest part of Durham so it is very beautiful.

Beautiful building with large, well serviced rooms in a lovely, welcoming community. I’m so proud and lucky to be a member of John’s and living here for first year, with such lovely students and kind staff, really helped ease the pressure of moving away from home

Great location, very central. Good facilities, has everything you need. Had a very spacious double room, couldn't have asked for any more space.

The rooms come in a variety of sizes, all have great furniture and are pretty uniform. The buildings have a lot of character. Not much in terms of catering facilities, but you are fully catered in term time anyway.

The Durham colleges are one of the things that make it a unique place to study. There is a real sense of community within each college, which makes the halls experience that bit different. Because meals, sports and societies can all be done within college, most people get to know their college friends pretty well. The accommodation ranges from modern blocks to characterful old houses (or if you're lucky a castle!), which means there's a lot to choose from. On the downside, it's pretty much all the same price (unless you want self-catered or an en suite etc) and most colleges randomly allocate rooms, which means you could have a much smaller room than someone else but be paying the same, especially if you're in an older college where the rooms are anything but uniform! I can only speak from my experience at John's, but the food was pretty decent most of the time considering the number of people they cook for! The staff are great, and befriending the porters, cleaners and catering staff is always a good idea! There are so many social events organised within college. One of the great things about the college is the effort put into makeing sure that both livers in and livers out are engaged in events, which reinforces the feeling of John's being like a big family!

president at the second attempt. With most ballots from Tuesday's run-off vote counted, Mr Weah is well ahead of opponent Joseph Boakai. He will succeed Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, Africa's first elected female president, in Liberia's first democratic handover in decades. Mrs Sirleaf defeated Mr Weah in the presidential election run-off in 2005, after the end of a brutal civil war. As news of Mr Weah's victory emerged on Thursday, his supporters began celebrating in the capital Monrovia.

My room was amazing, it was big with a double bed and plenty of storage and space. However my room was bigger than any others on my corridor so I did get lucky, the room next door to me was less than half the size and really quite small so it really is luck of the draw. The bathrooms weren't great, tiny showers and only 2 showers between 15 people which could be quite inconvenient. As we were catered there was only a tiny kitchen area with just a fridge and a microwave. This was enough considering we didn't need to make food however an oven might have been nice in case you missed dinner. But lack of kitchen also meant a lack of social space which most halls have, would end up sitting in someone's room or in the corridor to socialise. The corridor was quite loud as people for the whole block had to walk through it to get to their rooms so there were people coming and going all day and night, not great if you are a light sleeper. My room was so nice in makes up for the negative however if you were unlucky and got one of the smaller rooms the halls would not have been great at all.
