The rooms are small and the kitchen is only just big enough for the 10 people you live with. Guarantee it'll get disgustingly dirty in there even though cleaners come once a week. However you pay for what you get and it's damn cheap. I had a great social experience but you'll be able to meet more people in oadby

Social experience very good although the actual living space it’s self wasn’t the most aesthicslly pleasing but with the positioning of the buildings and the sharing a common room and living as a house of 10 made it extremely sociable. Room was small but enough storage space and the residential advisors were friendly.

Good points: Mary Gee Houses were cheap! Saved a lot of money in first year by staying there. Bad points: 25-30 minute walk away from campus, which was a struggle for 9am lectures. Only 5 chairs at the table in the kitchen even though there were 10 people in a block. Barely any social space other than the tiny kitchen space. Ridiculously small common room considering there was 300+ people.

Mary Gee is a perfect location for student looking to live on a budget. Although it's a big out the way for 'city' living, there is a buzzy atmosphere and, due to the layout of the blocks, there is a community feel. Getting to Uni takes about 25 minutes to walk which is useful as you don't have to fork out for a buss pass. There are buses to take the students to the clubs on popular evenings.

For me, one of the most daunting aspects of starting university was the idea of living away from parents for the first time. I had chosen Mary Gee Houses to live in the first year because, simply, it was the cheapest accommodation option available through the University. It was perhaps one of the decisions that made first year so satisfying. Having been housed in a flat of ten girls, I made friends quickly. The accommodation was basic but livable; the distance to university was walkable, unlike most of the houses at the student village.
