The halls had been recently refurbished so the rooms had really great facilities, such as a small double size bed, a big desk, a decent sized wardrobe, drawers and a sink in the room. The sink meant the shared bathrooms and showers weren't much of an issue at all. I lived with 9 other people sharing 3 showers, a huge kitchen with a dining area and toilets. The toilets were individual and had locks on them, cleaned often, and no one ever had to buy toilet roll! The shared aspects made a good social environment with others. We had to take care of the kitchen ourselves mostly, but everything else was cleaned regularly. I loved feeling like I had a comfortable private space too. The bedroom doors had locks so if you didn't feel like socialising, no one could barge in ever. There was also lovely outdoor spaces for us to hang out in during the warmer months, and the Orangery made a lovely place to read or study sometimes. There was events on quite often, such as movie screenings, and even a BBQ at one point! I felt safe in Surrey House too, the security guards were friendly people and there was multiple locks between our flat and the outside. Any issues we had with appliances were solved quickly, and we never had any major issues with the quality of the building or plumbing throughout the year. The wifi was good. It got a little bit too warm in the summer sometimes, but that wasn't a huge issue. Being 5 minutes away from uni was a blessing! Lots of bus routes right outside the halls that go into popular areas, New Cross station only about 5-10 mins walk away for Overground and National Rail trains. Nearest Aldi was on Old Kent Road which was a bit annoying, but not a huge issue.

Good and clean showers but no hand soap or loo roll provided. Excellent social space with pool table, sofas, football table and table tennis. Often have social events including therapy animals. Rooms are good size with nice beds but have had mould and dirty water from bedroom sinks. Overall a good and safe place to live.

Absolute amazing experience, the best people, the best friendships and actually really comfortable rooms, very spacious especially for halls in london! Very Cheap for what we get. Lots of hall organised events which have always been fun.

Convenient 5 minute walk from uni. Met my best friends in my flat so I am happy with the overall experience.

Really cool halls, built so it’s nice and sociable. Feel safe with 24/7 security and nice orangerie in garden for people to chill together. Good price and good location from the university (5 min walk). Loved it

Adore Surrey house. The layout, the rooms are huge. Security are lovely. Very lucky to be here. The building is very secure with fob access. If you loose it you’re given another one. The postal system is very helpful. And the site is well maintained.

Nice room but really expensive and I think they’re more expensive this year too. When I was there there were building works which meant a lot of the halls were off limits. The management was too great while I was there either. On my first night the freshers were having a party in the common room in the middle of halls till it was shut and for he rest of the year we were not allowed to use it after 20:00 or something. The management then wanted everybody to be more social but we couldn’t be because they’d more or less shut down to the students to have fun in.

The entire experience of these halls is disgusting. Not well cared for and sharing very few facilities with 22 other students per hall.

These halls are clean, social, spacious and a lovely place to be as well as close to Uni-I really lucked out with a room for £134.43/week, which is one of the cheaper rooms and rent could be paid completely from my student loan. It's not ensuite but the bathrooms are clean and the room is very spacious. Unfortunately, a lot of the accommodation, private and Uni-run, is ridiculously expensive. Even here some rooms cost £199/week, and in private rooms nearby (i.e., Chapter houses) fees start at around £200/week. The reputation of Surrey House (and other halls) has gotten much better following a renovation, but the fees for halls can be extortionate.
