Sheavyn House

Sheavyn is the perfect middle ground if you want to live on Owen's Park: you don't fancy roughing it out in the infamous Tower or Oak House, you get the beauty of the Ashbourne side with the green spaces and pond without paying for the extraness that is Ashbourne. Because it's en suites, it really doesn't matter that it's 9-10 people in each flat. If you're lucky, you could also get the very top floor of your block with only 9 people and a larger kitchen in comparison to the other floors. The bedrooms and en suites are simple: there's a long desk, desk chair, single bed, shelves, built in wardrobe, chest of draws, an additional chair, shower cubicle etc. but it's easy enough to make it feel personal. Lucky enough to get a very social flat, so because we got on really well from the very start we didn't end up mixing with rest of Sheavyn as much and ended up making friends with those from the other parts of Owens Park. But there was always things going on around Sheavyn too so don't be disheartened if you don't bond with your housemates straight off the bat – and you're never too far away from the rest of the Owens Park antics. So, if you want a social experience and interested in experiencing a bit more of Manchester (albeit, Manchester student life) it's worth living further out from the university and picking the Owen's Park campus. Getting to both central and north campus is super straight forward and there's way more buses regularly running just outside OP on Wilmslow Road than you'd expect, so don't be put off by the distance.

I really enjoyed being in halls, and in sheavyn your in a flat of 10 usualy so it can be quite social. The kitchen was good as were our individual bathrooms. For me i found the flats too separate from another so it was harder to mix with lots of people compared to other friends of mine in different accomdations such as little court.

Room is nice but small. Heating is very bad and the flat is always cold. Maintenance are very fast but the walls are thin and I can hear absolutely everything going on next door. The location is good, in a quieter part of fallowfield but the local area is really horrible and dangerous.

Location is great fallowfield is perfect for students although it's a 40 minute walk from uni. Buildings are very old, compared to other unis accommodation Manchester is behind the times, but there is new accommodation being constructed. Single beds which is a shame, but other than that no complaints. WiFi is very poor

Great location as the university is only a 20-minute bus ride away. The accommodation is also a conveniently short walk from Tesco and Sainsbury’s, which is handy when doing the weekly shop! The halls in Fallowfield are a popular choice for students, which also make them perfect for socialising. There are a number of cheap bars and pubs nearby if you don’t want to venture all the way into town for drinks. Free drinks held at Ashburne during Freshers and throughout the year for Ashburne and Sheavyn students were good for socialising with people from other halls and also for making friends during freshers week. Sheavyn is quieter than a few other halls, but I didn't feel like I was missing out on the nightlife at all!

Sheavyn is a fairly new set of halls - a bit more expensive compared to the other non catered options, but you get what you pay for. But, it’s fairly quiet compared to some halls.

Sheavyn House is on the edge of the Fallowfield campus, overlooking the beautiful green lawns and historic Ashburne Hall. It's 10 bed flats are nicely furnished, with a large kitchen and dining area ideal for socialising. Each bedroom has a sizable en suite, large desk looking out of a window, and comfy single beds. Storage space in the rooms is enough for anyone, and you get a desk chair as well as another cushioned chair. As part of the price, you get access to the ornate Ashburne library which is open 24 hours, a 1 minute walk away from your flat, and has the feel of an old fashioned Oxford style academic library.

Location of sheavyn house is amazing as it’s set in the idyllic grounds of Ashburne hall whilst still being really close to owen’s Park. You can also make full use of ashburne’s facilities I.e the library and practice rooms which I found to be really really useful. The ensuite was definitely appreciated and the weekly cleaner! However, It is v v expensive for what you get compared to other university halls prices.

Sheavyn was a great place to make friends. Living in a mix flat of 9 people I met their friends too, and now I have a bigger social circle although they may have been from different halls. The xmas parties and halloween events that were for those living in owens park were great for socialising and the free alchol made the night cheap. The only down side is the rent was very expensive considering fallowfield is a very cheap area and that we had a problem with silverfish and lady birds. The location was good as we were near the bus stops, pubs, supermarkets in the heart of fallowfield.

Located near to the bus stop, great on site cafe and close enough to all of the action in the fallowfield campus without it being disruptive ! Made a great set of friends here and would recommend these halls !

It’s in fallowfield, but slightly out of the way so it’s quieter but also means that security shut down parties earlier. Common room has been locked whole time I’ve been here which isn’t great. The kitchens for top floor are huge and are a good size elsewhere. Everyone is really nice.
