Broadgate Park

The location of Broadgate Park is pretty convenient as far as self catered accommodation goes however it was not on campus so wouldn't say it was ideal. I had a standard room, with 5 people in my flat sharing two bathrooms. I was lucky and had a fairly spacious room however some of the rooms were significantly smaller for paying the same price rent. It's very much luck of the draw as to who you'll share with and I can't say any of my flatmates were now life long friends and there wasn't really and area or bar for people to mingle in. Given that, the social aspect wasn't great and often felt quite isolating.

I thoroughly enjoyed my year living in Broadgate Park. I was in Hollies block in a flat of 5 people. The rooms were of a decent size and what you would expect. The kitchen however was very small with only a breakfast bar and stalls for seating area which meant we would often socialise in the hallway between flats. There was also a good communal social area for all of broadgate park which hosted events occasionally. There is a shop and cafe on site which was handy. Took 15/20 mins to walk onto campus which I enjoyed.

I am lucky as I've ended up in one of the new buildings but there is huge variation in both room quality and the size of social spaces. In terms of showers, ensuite is FAR too smalla nd the whole place will get mouldy unless ventilated well because the extractor fan basically doesn't work and the whole place gets soaked when you shower. However the upside of ensuite, at least in the new buildings, is a large kitchen and relatively nice facilities in the kitchen. Laundry space is very limited for the 2000+ students so be sure to go like midday. No shop anymore just some rubbish vending machine, and staff are generally rude and make you feel bad for calling maintenance - despite various worthwhile issues. Nice location in reference to the uni but dead in terms of wider social events, with nothing like on-campus hall formals and big events, and of course the lack of any decent social spaces like the JCR's in halls

The facilities in my flat were excellent, perfect amount of people (5) for the kitchen size, I know other flats struggled as they had a smaller kitchen but more flat members. All the staff I came into contact with were lovely, social experience was great. Flats were kept clean every week by cleaners.

The location is very close to campus and so is very convenient for travelling to and fro. There are multiple entrance and exit gates which is also convenient when accessing accommodation. The committee puts in a lot of effort with the social gatherings, although this could improve by doing quiz nights or game nights and using the courtyard for such activities or the common room above reception. However the Christmas ball was a success and insanely beautiful and I commend them for organising that. My room is decent and I have adequate storage space, fridge space and a bathroom. However there are continual delays with addressing maintenance complaints, such as my shower drain being missing.

Good facilities in rooms but could be more common areas for studios as there is no real area to meet per block.

Although limited by the design itself, the opportunities to meet loads of great people are there, you just need to take them. By that I mean Broadgate does not have a bar (although it does have a common room but it's not used very much). I stayed in a standard room which was pretty run of the mill student accommodation, don't expect anything great unless you pay for a studio which I wouldn't recommend as it seems to make things more difficult with regards to meeting people. In standard rooms, you get to share a kitchen with 4 others (depending on which block you get) and share 2 bathrooms amongst you all. You are also part of a block of about 40/50 others who provide a good part of your social life at halls. I met some great friends and although it didn't have the intimacy or facilities of catered halls on campus, if you are looking at self-catered Broadgate Park is the best in terms of location and size, with it being right next to uni and containing about 1000-2000 students altogether. Overall if I could go back I would probably still go to Broadgate due to all the reasons above as well as the fact it is much more affordable than catered halls as well.

Housing was really nice and the staff are pretty awesome. Location wasn't great if you wanted to walk to town, but there's a tram 5 minutes away. There's also plenty of supermarkets in Beeston which is only a ten minute walk. Can be a little noisy in the early hours of the morning though.

Broad gate park is located just off campus (as in you cross the road to campus) so as close to to campus as you could need really It is self catered Kitchen size varies but a good size in a 5 person flat My room was a basic halls of residence flat with a single bed, desk and wardrobe. I think the rooms with the ensuite were bigger. I enjoyed the social experience although in catered halls there may be more opportunities to mix with people at dinner times

I stayed in spruces in a studio apartment during my first year. Although the room was really nice, I felt quite isolated as at the time the common room was a walk away in another building, so socialising with the people in your corridor wasn't so easy, especially when you had fire doors that were to be kept shut. If I had to do it again I would have not opted for a studio so i could benefit from the shared kitchen/common areas in flats. The location however was great, you have to walk from all halls as campus is big and although you may try to get the halls closest to your school, you will most likely be all over campus for different lectures. There was also aa ittl shop within broadgate in case you ran out of basics. During Freshers week buses picked us up for club nights and the broadgate reps/ welcome reps created a great atmosphere and cared about everyone's safety. Overall broadgate halls were great, I'd just recommend sharing communal space for the social interaction.

I've lived in my studio for 3 months, and the room itself is simply adequate. No shared space do you have to put a lot of effort in to make friends and the fire alarm tests drive me mad. Laundry is £3 for a wash and a dry and the common room above reception is really nice. The location is great though. 5 mins from Beeston which has all the shops you'd need, 15mins on the tram into town. The major downside is it's EXTREMELY expensive for what you get.

Broadgate is great because it's so close to campus and the facilities are really modern but the gates are not always locked at night to certain sections and as we are surrounded by building works and residential areas, we have a lot of the public who are around and can easily walk into Broadgate, especially Upper Court. I feel like the area could be more well lit and if the gates were shut at 7:30 like advertised, I personally would feel a lot safer. Also, my internet drops out a lot, there is no service in my room and lots of people in my block have told me they have silverfish under their bed and I've had them in my shower but aside from that, my room is great.

The location was near on perfect. It is over the roundabout from the West Entrace for University Park and within 15 minutes, you are at the heart of the campus. 10 minutes in the other direction was the town of Beeston with banks, supermarkets, bakeries, cafes, pubs and other convenient stores. Bus stops with links to other campuses and the city were a step outside the gates and a tram stop was a couple minutes walk. The common room was amazing to work in when the library was too busy or you didn’t want to undertake the walk. The shop was so convenient and stocked everything you’d need and the cafe was a hub of activity, especially in summer, as it served cheap, good quality food and Starbucks. It was like a little town within itself and you’d constantly be running into friends and meeting new ones. My flat in Laurels block was a perfect size, the kitchen was the heart of the flat and so spacious. The cleaner always did an amazing job. The shower/bathroom was slightly small and the floor would often get flooded, the room had everything you needed and was a perfect size for a first year room. Wifi connection never dropped and the heating worked amazingly.

Good maintenance, good free stuff like Chinese food for Chinese New Year. Located in beeston so about a half hour walk to the medical school in QMC. Beeston is good for food shopping, but further from town than other self catered halls like St. Peter’s court. No living space, tiny kitchen, no security for lower court

Fantastic halls, great kitchen and toilet and shared areas, big room, they always put on events to go to. Best time ever

Overall, really great. Facilities are lovely, staff are helpful... BUT THE WIFI. Went down several times during exam season which made an already stressful time more stressful.

The facilities are basic and there isn’t much space. Standard rooms are very small. There’s shared social space but having a living space in your flat is much more important to not feel cramped. And although there are plenty of events organised they don’t provide much opportunity to be social. However the events are great, there’s often free food, drink and entertainment. Though because rent is expensive it accounts for this. Accommodation is not on campus so not as conveniently located as catered halls.

It’s a great location, very close to campus and it’s just a few minutes walk to the DRSV sports center. The staff are polite and they are very helpful if you need any maintenance done. It would be better if there was a common room or a place to chill in upper court so we don’t have to treck all the way to the main broadgate.

Convenient location, doorstep of UoN and near Beeston which has supermarkets and pretty decent restaurants/takeaways!

The kitchen is really small and not enough room really but the rooms are good and the workers are nice. Facilities aren't the best like common room and all that

Location is perfect if you love living at the doorstep of UoN! Broadgate has regular-ish socials, rooms are decent sized and service team generally okay, just a little expensive!

Good location, but not very nice accommodation. Very small kitchen for 5 people and rooms are going mouldy. Unfair allocation of rooms, as people paying the same price are in better areas and much newer and nicer accommodation. En suites are very much nicer.

Location: Close to the uni and within walking distance to the nearby town centre where there were lots of shops and supermarkets. In Beeston there’re so many major chains that you won’t have to go to the city for much. A co-op is even opening opposite BGP. Social experience: the management is fantastic, they organise so many events throughout the year that are free and fun to participate in, including a welcoming carnival, Christmas cheer, Chinese New Year festivities, and a very affordable and value for money annual Ball. Social Areas: there’s only one common room and it’s above the management office, which doesn’t make it a very attractive location. It’s fairly large though, with cushions and a pool table. There’s also a cafe, I don’t know if you need to buy a coffee to stay there. There’re some tables here and there to sit on in spring / summer, though not enough. My room: got the basic one, adequate with a desk, chair, bed and cupboard. Mattress was clearly not new. Shared kitchen and toilets - the cleaning and maintenance crew are great, they do their job well and respond quickly. Value for Money: yup. WiFi: it’s okay. Nothing much to say.

The room wasn’t what a paid for, neither was the kitchen or bathroom. I found the university showed me a completely different style of room to the one I was told I was paying for on my open days. I hated living in halls as well, living amongst bullies - as someone who has never experienced bullying before this was horrible.
