It’s far enough away from the city to be away from all of the noise but close enough for a quick and easy commute. The bedrooms are very big in comparison to other NTU halls. The staff are brilliant!

Okay so tbh I chose The Maltings because I was in a tight spot by leaving my accommodation plans until last minute. I live in Phase 1 Block C But I was very relieved to find that it's actually pretty decent here compared to what I had in mind. The Maltings only offers shared bathroom flats, and the number you get varies from 5-20 flat mates. Most flats do tend to be for 5 people though. Bathroom conditions. Sharing a bathroom is 100% not that hard if you're like dealing with at least 5 people like I am or less. Schedules tend to be very different in uni. And easy precautions can be taken if you're worried about germs. If it's about convenience, invest in a bath robe and a carrier item to quickly transport your shower things from the bathroom to your room if you dont feel like leaving it in there. Sound proof. The floor is pretty thick in the rooms. You jump and nothing shakes. However the walls are fairly thin, and sound does travel. But in my experience noise isnt frequent. Washing machines and dryer It's £2 each but you can always bring your own drying rack. Plus, the washing machines are very good, unlike the one I have at home, clothes come out far on the simply damp side rather than soaking. Meaning it shouldnt be that hard to air dry clothing. You have the option of getting a laundry card or using the app, I use the card so crashes or wifi issues etc are n/a. Flat layouts. Honestly it depends. Not everyones are the same. I quite like mine because the first door when you come in to the right is the kitchen, and it is very spacious. Meanwhile someone else I know has a kitchen at the end of their corridor and it isnt as spacious, the kitchen is sort of in the corner going also past the door which you came from and then you sort of "turn a corner" (so it isnt just a simply open soace) to see the dining table. It's not terrible but it just made the flat seem even more narrow and cramped by not having a space right when you enter to see. Space. The Maltings phase 1 buildings tend to have narrow hallways, but you get used to it. And the rooms are decent sizes - although they are bigger in phase 2, and so are the hallways. I've heard things like phase 2 is much more social, but you can easily go over when events are being held in the common room. I've not seen the state of the kitchens in phase 2. Social experience A lot of events get held for students to mingle. Including Easter egg hunts, picnics, film nights, new year welcome thing with hot drinks and complimenting treats, etc. Freshers week is packed full of club nights. A bus would come at like 10 or 11 to take students to clubs. The only problem was that sometimes the bus would go off unexpectedly at times they were meant to take people back to the maltings so some students would have to find their own way home later. But yeah it's fine. I dont really go clubbing so my knowledge isnt a lot. Inventory check. When you move in check EVERYTHING go EVERYWHERE so many things were wrong with my room, a lot of which I missed because I didnt want to move anything before the inventory check submission. And so only after I started cleaning did I start finding more things. I reported a lot of it but the staff were obviously perplexed. Kitchen The cupboards dont have locks or anything. Theres one fridge, flats with more people may have more. There are a lot of cupboards! This could vary though. Grocery Aldi and Sainbury's are next to each other, and they're like a 10minute or so walk to reach. Or you could take the bus from the maltings to Zulu Road and be there in a jiffy. Another place is tesco Express which is maybe like 5-10mins near McDonalds. but it's at a petrol station. So it's costy. Hairdressers I've not been theres some nearby. Gym Theres a gym near where aldi and Sainbury's are called PureGym. You may be better off just getting membership at the SU with the deals which could be on for you though. The bus to trent is like 15-20mins long. Drops you right in front of it.

Overall the accomodation is perfect for first year students with extremely helpful and friendly staff that have eased me into uni and made my time enjoyable. The facilities on site are ideal with washing machines and tumble driers and a 24hour reception, the bus stop outside is also extremely handy. The only downside is the size of the rooms and the distance from the uni however neither of these things have impacted me negatively.

The free bus pass is good and very useful. The facilities are clean. In a flat of 10 there is only 1 oven but there are 2 hobs, would be better if there was another hob. The cleaners are good and very friendly. Living with 5-10 other people is good for the social experience and they have a good freshers week with reps bringing everyone to events. Bed is very small. Enough cupboard space and desk is big. Living so far from uni is inconvenient as it takes long to get there and back.

Really great for social. The place is a bit old however you do get bigger rooms. And don't worry about the shared bathroom it's never been a problem. It's a bit further away from the city but you will be a free bus card so it's not even a problem. It's a very good price and you will save a lot of money. 4/5 over all

Location is a nightmare especially if travelling to Clifton campus - a car is highly recommended! Wouldn’t recommend for students who want to do extracurricular activities because of the travel involved. Staff are so brilliant! I would recommend for those who need cheap accommodation- free bus pass included! Social area attracts smokers so not ideal

Flatmates are the ones who make here bearable to live in. Needs a communal area. Kitchen facilities are average, shower is small. Room is liveable.

The rooms are a good size and cheap for what you get. Very social accommodation - you know most people that live there

I really like the flat mates and despite the location being far away from town you get free bus pass and some lovely parks around the area

The maltings made my first year sick, all the staff are lovely and no complaints about the flat. Shower was good, hot water, plenty of room space and kitchen space and large outside area for smoking and socialising. Plenty of storage space and the shared shower and toilet wasn't a problem -you have a sink &mirror in your room and there's locks on all the doors. Location Isn't great but there's a free bus pass which is only a 15 min ride and run regularly. Everyone at the maltings is in the same boat so made everyone a lot more sociable and friendly. Aldi and sainsbury 10 min walk away and a Tesco 5 mins away & a maccies literally down the road.

Even the maltings is quite far out of the city centre I found it a nice place to live. It makes the people you live with a lot more sociable. Make sure you pick the new building though because that has bigger rooms.
