Chantry

Location is a great distance from the city centre and nightlife. Asda is a bit far however so it’s hard to do a large food shop at one time but Lidl is a closer alternative. No small flats so you can get to know up to 40 people on one floor. Feels like one large family at chantry. Room is an ok size for 1st year but can get depressing. Common room is perfect for residencies movie night. They do need more washing machines and dryers though. All in all a great stay.

As the cheapest of the solent halls chantry is definitely good value for money! Having been renovated recently the rooms are very modern and well fitted and meet all your needs. However Chantry falls short of expectations in many other aspects... the upkeep and support are abysmal, at one point our kitchen light and extra or fan were completely broken for over a month, leaving us in the dark in a rancid smelling kitchen even though we reported it almost daily! Earlier on in the year all of our showers but 1 were broken, one leaked across the whole bathroom when you used it, one had a blocked drain so it overflowed within minutes and the other had no heat or pressure at all! Meaning that 11 of us were reduced to using one shower! Multiple times we have spotted silver fish bugs scurrying in dark corners of the bathroom and living opposite i was always worried about getting an infestation in my room; especially as the pipe under my sink would frequently break and leak water into the cupboard below creating mould and an odour that seeped out into the rest of my room. As chantry is the cheapest accommodation there is almost never anyone at the reception to help with problems, many times I paid for next day delivery on a parcel just for there to be no one to let the driver in or sign for it, other times it was signed for but it was days before someone was in reception for me to collect it! All in all i would say i had no problem with sharing bathrooms but just with the upkeep and attitude towards maintaining an enjoyable living environment that the staff seemed to have.

Very spacious room, comfy beds and friendly flatmates. Kitchen can get v busy at times but you can always work around it. Chantry is v good compared to others (based on what i've heard), both room-wise and money-wise- 10/10 would recommend / live in again.

Really enjoyed time living there. The rooms are very modern and the bathrooms are clean and modern it has a big common room where you can throw parties so you can gather easily and play loud music. Living on the last floor is kinda annoying cause on the summer is like a sauna and in the winter is freezing

Excellent halls for the price you're paying, the bathrooms and bedrooms were newly renovated when we moved in and were very nice and modern! Only a 5-10 minute walk from both town and the university. Staff are so friendly and lovely and has a big common room. Only downsides are that the lift often breaks down and sharing a bathroom with 9 other people can get a bit gruesome sometimes! But can hardly complain when cleaners clean the bathroom for you! Overall a very good experience and standard of living at Chantry for the price I payed.

It's okay, looks nice. But extremely noisey and nothing works. No TV signal, no kettle to make coffee, showers are ways broken, fire alarm goes off all the time. Right next to hog lands Park which is dodgy.

My halls always felt safe I was well looked after by all members of staff and the kitchens where always kept clean; although the some of the cleaning staff weren’t as nice, myself and my other mates to shared my floor would hear the cleaners being very loud and talking nasty about the members on the floor but apart from them everything else about the place was wonderful

Really nice halls except from the people I ended up living with. Would recommend living here though as it was easy to deal with

Not more than 20 minutes for the university. The 'common room' was really cool, it had a pool table, ping pong table, TV with sky and vending machines. It was a good area to chill in

Rooms nicely designed but taps do not work properly and the windows let in drafts causing the heating to be used much more. Showers are awful and do not work properly causing students to have cold showers most of the time. Toilets often blocked. Kitchens are nicely designed and always cleaned well by friendly cleaners.

Really cheap and honestly really fun. Social, something always happening which means there's always a good buzz around the place. Just really enjoy living here

Sociable as the flats aren’t closed off from another and common room easily accessible. Shared bathrooms not too bad however aren’t cleaned over weekend and as Friday and Saturdays are most popular for people to go out the bathrooms become very dirty.

Very loud, the bathroom flooded several times and there was also a ladybird infestation. Good if you enjoy a night out but not so great if you have a 9am.

Definitely the loudest of all the halls at uni. The communal bathroom floor flooded regularly and the small kitchens meant sometimes people were a little too close for comfort. But they were very close to uni so 9ams didn't seem so bad.
