Monte Halls were amazing, especially V block which was very modern and refurbished. It was about 20 seconds away from reception and the bus stop which made it incredible convenient. The kitchens were huge and there were so many green spaces to chill in.

The halls are cozy to live in and has spacious . The location of the one that I am particularly staying in is quite far from the university main campus but there are efficient bus services that you could take. Also ,staying in halls you get a free bus card that lasts for a year and you can travel around the city.

Amazing large halls, I was in a flat set up with 21 other people which created an incredible social atmosphere and made life never boring! Monty halls was new and well furnished with good service staff that came and cleaned and fix things when needed! Loved the halls!

Good location from campus and regular buses, good facilities and near to Connaught library. Lots of halls grouped together. My room was dark with no natural light and the heather was always breaking

Self catered halls have good sized bedrooms with lots of storage space and large desks. However, the bathrooms are quite small and damp can cause silverfish to appear. Kitchens are a little bit small for 7 people but facilities are good

Monte is a great halls which is located close to local amenities. However, the city centre is at least a 20 minute bus away (at the best of times). If you're going out, spare £10 for a taxi home as you're a 2 hour walk away from home.

Excellent halls of residence site with 24/7 open modern study zone, lounge area and many other facilities. 24/7 security on site. Only a 7 minute bus ride or 15 minute walk to the main campus with very frequent bus links to the city/airport/campus

Overall Wessex lane, specifically montefiore is a pleasant place. I have friendly flatmates and a friendly block as well. However facilities in the flat aren't the greatest as the shower and kitchen is small and the lights keep flickering etc. I personally have a nice room and one of the biggest ones which was lucky.

Connaught Halls was specifically where I was located, with catered food. I loved every minute of it and the sense of community was great. Would definitely recommend to anyone coming to uni of Southampton .

Wessex lane is a big hall complex with really good security. Any maintenance problems were fixed within a day. The room I stayed in was quite small but really efficient with a tap and a sink. Also, the receptionists and all the security were really helpful, I really appreciated the 24/7 security.

Very big halls. Very social and easy and regular busses to anywhere in the city. Very close to the campus as well (15 minute walk, 5 minute bus ride). Room and kitchen very nice and cheap.

Connaught is connected with wessex lane and that is where I stayed. They have a new and an old part which are in the end quite similar. Kitchens are very small but that is due to connaught being part catered. It has recently refurbished common room and good communal study areas with printing possibility.

I stayed in Montefiore block B which, to those who know, was notoriously dubbed the party block. I'm not going to lie - I lived in the 4th floor, there was no lift (I got very fit climbing those stairs) and I shared a kitchen, four toilets and four showers with 21 other people. The most terrible part of that was the state the kitchen ended up in - we went through three cleaners throughout the year and each one we made them cry. BUT it was fairly cheap accommodation, close enough to campus yet far enough away to be an escape. I can never remember the showers not being hot enough and the facilities were cleaned when we hadn't left them so disgusting that the cleaner didn't strike, which I actually didn't blame her for. And those free bus passes you get are a God-send. All in all, not great halls, but not the worst.

The facilities were close by and convenient, There was a study are, computer room which made socializing and catching up with friends easier. My room had an amazing layout: it was well lit and really spacious. The layout of the halls made meeting people easy, and I always bumped into people I knew

Sociable but very dirty, infested with silverfish! The rooms were so varied in size too some girls had massive rooms whilst I had a tiny room where half was blocked of by the shower, not fair

the location is ok as it's close to the university campus but it's far from the city centre, especially if you're taking the bus, in which most students will do as we get a free bus pass along with the accomdation fees. Wessex Lane Halls is the oldest accommodation in University of Southampton so it's quite old and the place looks quite unpleasant for those who want a better and cleaner environment. The cupboards in the kitchen are not very good and some are even broken- definitely needs repairing and majority of sinks are blocked or that the water runs down slower than usual. However, the price for this accommodation is the cheapest out of the whole of Southampton Halls of Residence, therefore it is good for those who want to spend minimum amount of money on living. There is a nice common room for those to socialise within Wessex Lane, located in the catered halls of Wessex Lane. There is a bus stop right outside of Montefiore (Non catered halls of Wessex Lane) which is handy to get in and out and buses are relatively frequent (around 20 mins for every bus) or every 10 mins during peak hours during times when students need to attend lectures. However, the bus stop always has a long queue and sometimes the bus is full and you will have to wait for the next bus to get on.

Location was perfect for getting to and from uni, however for nightlife it was a bit further than all other halls to the town center. My room was perfect, not too small and the bathroom was on the smaller side, but served it purpose! Our block was very social and we all made friends with other flats which was so much fun. As wessex has so many blocks you would always see a friendly face and it really helped as you were constantly getting to know new people.

The location is pretty far from most places, especially the city centre but it's not too far from the university campus which is handy for those who have a few hours between lectures, say 2 or 3 hours.

The location is prime for the uni, close enough to walk in the summer but only a couple of minutes on the bus which means more precious minutes in bed. The halls include a bus pass include in the price which is perfect for the winter when you don’t want to walk! When you think of student living, you automatically think of cheap and basic living, and that is what you get. The rooms are bigger than expected and the Ensuite is sizeable but the kitchen is small in comparison to the other halls. Many times you will encounter bugs, but how many times you encounter them can be reduced by keeping the areas clean. In terms of location in relation to nightlife, it is one of the further halls - meaning it requires a bus or taxi journey for all clubs. If you consider yourself a party animal than you may want to consider this as the cost of taxi’s 5 times a week will sure add up! One of the best things about Wessex are the people, it’s a very communal hall and everyone that has stayed at Wessex have said the same things - the people you meet are friends for life! Block parties are frequent and lay out of the blocks mean that your always running into people and making new friends. Overall, my experience at Wessex has been positive. The facilities were basic but adequate, nothing special but I’ve seen worse. The location was great for me, as I enjoy a few more minutes in bed in the morning and splitting taxi’s from clubs make nights out cheaper!

Good location, close to uni with great bus links. Decent room and kitchen facilities - need more social spaces though (e.g. utilise the boiler room).

Absolutely loved my time in halls! Wessex Lane is really varied, and I stayed in Connaught Old Quad. It was really sociable and communal, especially because of the big grass quad in the middle and BBQs we could all use. They’ve recently refurbished the study room and it’s looking really useful!

The level of people created a great social atmosphere, however, the lack of activity in the boiler room was underwhelming. If that were to be opened and used then Monte would improve greatly.

Location fairly reasonable as only a 15 minute walk to campus however couldn’t be any further from the city centre. Is the largest Halls and occasionally has events in like free pizza, burgers or karaoke. Rooms are fairly spacious and facilities can vary from flat to flat as some is new and others it’s old. You see the occasional rat and silverfish but it’s all good character building as well nutrients.

Monte halls are very good. Good location. Very good party atmosphere. Good bus connectivity. Ideal for freshers. Close to Connaught halls
