I love the creative writing degree at Bath Spa University because there is a wide choice of modules available which covers all writing genres. The assessments are just coursework and no exams which is much more beneficial as to create a good piece of writing takes time and planning, therefore aiding our professional growth when it comes to the writing industry. I have had some extremely supportive lecturers, and others who haven't been so helpful, however, both have taught me so much in terms of using disappointment and criticism as a positive, and also following my heart and writing what I love to read. The best advice I was taught on my course, also the same advice I got from Marcus Sedgwick, is: whatever you're writing, write as if you were the reader.
Overall I really enjoy my degree. However like most things there are some negatives. Or example, the projects that we need to film for our assignments could be a little more exciting and a bit more difficult. Some of the lectures aren't the most helpful, a couple don't show much interest in you personally. However a couple of my lectures are really great to talk to and do push you to be the best that you can. My passion for the subject is what makes everything so enjoyable - the equipment at my uni though is what makes it worth it as not many uni's have the facilities that we have.
International Business is about going beyond national boundaries, it is about researching global markets, international trends, culture differences and how different languages interact within the organisation environment. This 3years course provides you with the opportunity to explore all the different business areas, such as marketing, entrepreneurship or HR from a more international point of view.Mix of cultures is essential. Within this course you will get to know people from different countries and backgrounds, different ideas will interact, debates will be a essential key learnin point therefore.A working experience opportunity will be also available for International Business students; either a summer one (10 weeks long) or year-long (10-12 months). it brings the student the chance to get to know what the real work experience consists of and what working within a real organisation actually means. It will in some way motivate the student when coming back to university, providing them with a more professional and mature perspective. We could conclude then, International Business provides the student with all the knowledge a good manager or businessperson would need but with a special differentiation: a taste of internationality and culturalization.
The range of production we learn about (from graphics to feature filming) and the different roles we can take on (director to floor manager) gives me options for when I leave and allows me to explore what I like doing!
This depends on which teacher you get. My first teacher for his had an unstructed teaching style which didn't work for me. The university understood and moved me to a different class with a more strutted style. I learn to script write - and learnt it wasn't for me , I learnt to plan organise and finally shoot a film. It helped me develop in areas I was good at and let me learn areas I would need to know how to do in a film career.
The degree covers a wide variety of areas within film and in second and third year gives you the chance to develop further down a set route - such as film making , film theory or production. Teachers are passionate shame all my fellow course takers were not.
This course is amazing for so many reasons. The diversity and variety that you can cross-over is ace! Being able to explore different areas of creativity with genuine enthusiasm and support from your tutors opened so many doors. Being able to access workshops with expert facilities covering a wide range of mediums meant I was able to push myself from my comfort zone. By using materials and techniques that I would have otherwise not even contemplated before I have been able to make a foundation for myself that I feel proud and confident to go forward with. I have learnt so much from both the positive and negative experiences of university life, I'd highly recommend Bath Spa University.
My degree is well boring. The lecturers read from PowerPoint cuz, like wtf. Nightlife is dead, no clubs are full and campus is miles from anywhere
The module provides a real world experience within the boundaries of the lecture/seminar environment. Assessments ranged from group presentations, individual reports and group project initiation documents. All of the assessments are related and based on what could be used in an actual business. Some examples are the use of a fishbone analysis to find the root cause of a problem, and the Project Initiation Document (PID) which we have put together, in groups of about 16, with each of us having specific job roles which we applied for. We are also marked individually and as a group which encourages teamwork and communication.
