I moved in a little later to everyone due to moving universities. However my hall mates will be my friends for life. Don't be nervous to talk to them and just be yourself.

The club nights that were arranged by the SU were awful! They barely helped me meet new people, which had to be done all through socialisation within my halls. The nights had no passion and they didn't really provide me with a real variety in music or help me get to know Birmingham. Honestly felt like the SU didn't care

My first university experience was incredible, I learnt so many new things in just one week- freshers week. I met some amazing people who I’m now best friends with after my 3 years of living with them. Some useful tips I would personally say are to just be yourself and don’t put on an act don’t change yourself for other people you meet due to fear or being scared just try and be yourself that’s the best way to be at university and people will like you for who you are. Try and go to as many social events as you possibly can to meet new people and even get onto activity groups.

My first time stepping out into the Birmingham uni night life and I can say it was a very memorable week a lot of which I’ll remember forever. Though, to be honest there are days that I can’t rememebr lool

There was lots of events to cater different kinds of music! But I think there could of been a lot more events, compared to other universities I feel as though Birmingham doesn’t have as many in comparison! However, drinks are cheap and music is good!!

Was really easy to move in. There was helpers who buddies up and helped me move in. They were volunteers and they were first years like me a year ago. The first week is very welcoming because of all the social events and society fairs where you can meet lots of new people.

Freshers was definitely overhyped at my uni - it was boring, no real events and nothing was really that well promoted in uni either. I went on one night out and couldn’t be bothered to go again - it wasn’t freshers, it was a standard night out clubbing

Very fun and energetic, I learnt a lot about the uni and how it operates and how to get course help and how to find out about diffferent student events and other things like that.

Freshers week was pretty fab, the uni arranged it well so everyone could meet eachother and there was also lots of events during the day going on in halls. If you're up for going out for the full 10 nights in a row then Birmingham is the best place to do it, but there's also lots of stuff to do that the uni puts on that doesn't involve drinking tonnes.

The move in experience was 99% focused on people living in halls. There was hardly any focus on commuting students, especially during freshers week. Late night clubbing was the main attraction leaving anyone who is unable to drink or commute to any clubs uninvited. This goes for societies as well, majority of sports events are done in the evening/early night leaving a majority of commuting students unable to go. What would have been more inclusive was setting up a meeting during freshers week for commuting students to go to for them to have the opportunity to make friends and find people who take the same route transport for them. Another problem was during the winter months there was next to no support for commuting students whose lectures finished at 7pm, students requested to go to seminars that were earlier in the day so that it would alleviate anxiety from travelling in the dark - but the lecturers and university declined, giving only rape alarms to female students. Many of these commuting students as a result failed to turn up to lectures and seminars during the winter because they were too scared for their wellbeing travelling at night.

Freshers week was an unforgettable experience. From non stop intake of alcohol, to getting to see what Birmingham had to offer. But the best part was , meeting and bonding with my fellow flat and course mates who I would embark on this 3 year journey at Birmingham City University

My freshers week did not meet my expectations, I though there was a lack of promotion for certain fresher events and caused me to not find out about some

I was scared about freshers to begin with by meeting new people and being in a city I didn’t know. But I was wrong to be scared. I got on with my flat mates so well so quickly and enjoyed every second of freshers! We met so many students who lived near us and on different courses and every night the clubs were packed.

I was scared about freshers week to begin with, I didn’t think i’d make enough friends quick enough to enjoy myself. I was wrong, me and my flat mates got on so well so quickly and every day and every night with them was incredibly fun. We met loads of other students who lived near us on the nights out and the atmosphere was always fun and filled with people.

I moved into my flat an net a lot of nice people who I am still very good friends with, the freshest committee hosted lots of really good night for the week with interesting themes to get everyone out of their comfort zones. The freshest fair had a large variety of clubs and activations to sign up for with great opportunities to meet people who have similar interests to you.
