MEng Mechanical Engineering - very approachable lecturers and excellent course. A lot of practical elements and the opportunity to study different disciplines. The hands on experience invaluable for job interviews, and Edinburgh a fantastic city.

It's not always the most modern but it's a good campus. The new learning commons facilities are great places to study and the library is being rennovated.

BSc (Hons) Biological Sciences
2.0 out of 5 stars based on 1 review

First 2 years started off relatively well, the course was well structured and intellectually challenging. However, third year they decided to rid the uni of the school of life sciences in which my course was part of, and begin a whole process of changing the structure of the entire course. Final has been a joke and they attempt to set you up for failure. But the God I serve will NEVER let that happen. Over all I would not recommend coming to this uni for ANY biological course. It's a shambles!

BSc (Hons) Actuarial Science

Every night I lay fading with the intent of arriving spritely to lecture ready for some interesting maths. Yet every morning I wake to the cold touch of beyond the duvet covers and decide my bed is worth more than what I will learn in that lecture. I find my lecturers to be untalented in their careers and take no interest in their pupils during tutorials. I also find my courses boring but it must be said, the challenge is rewarding and it is easy to become successful if you put extra work upon hard work with this degree. It is all going to be worth it in the end.

BSc (Hons) Mathematical Statistical and Actuarial Sciences
4.0 out of 5 stars based on 1 review

In the first year of my degree we covered many maths and statistics modules, a lot of which continued on from the school syllabus. This allowed for an easy progression into university life. These subjects gave us a good base knowledge in order to tackle the more complex actuarial subjects.

The level of work required took a significant jump up heading into second year and then gradually increased throughout the rest of my time at university.

Course module review - Life Insurance Mathematics B, 23/05/2016

Life Insurance Mathematics B

This module followed on from Life Insurance A which gave you an grounding in the basic calculations/techniques used within Life Insurance.

Life Insurance B really brought the mathematics alive for me as for one of the first times within my course I could really imagine actually using these skills in a real office environment. We learnt how to calculate premiums, how much a company needs to reserve in order to ensure they can cover their future liabilities, how marketable certain products would really be to a prospective client etc.

Working as part of a multidisciplinary collaborative group of 6-7, a week long project ensued in an effort to provide an innovative solution to a project brief. The tight deadline and group nature f the work encourages great organisational ability as well as critical communication skills. Presentations of the proposed solutions were offered to not just the lecturers leading the class, but also engineers from local projects and national engineering companies. This is a crucial experience that provides a wide array of benefits.
