Why Study Here

Why Study Here

When you join Kingston University you become part of a welcoming, diverse and inclusive community where you will develop an ongoing passion for your subject. Our students benefit from a practice-based, hands-on education informed by innovative research to ensure our graduates have the skills and knowledge required to work in the industry.

We're proud that our commitment to high quality teaching has been recognised with a TEF Gold rating. The University has received an overall rating of Gold, as well as securing a Gold award in the framework's two new student experience and student outcomes categories.

There’s a lot happening at Kingston. Town House, located at our Penrhyn Road campus won the 2021 RIBA Stirling Prize for Britain’s best new building and the Mies van der Rohe Award in 2022. Town House provides outstanding study facilities for students, including a new library with over 1,000 study spaces, flexible learning areas, a covered courtyard, cafes, dance studios and roof top gardens.

Embedded within every course curriculum and throughout the whole Kingston experience, Future Skills will play a role in shaping you to become a future-proof graduate, providing you with the skills most valued by employers such as problem-solving, digital competency, and adaptability. As you progress through your degree, you'll learn to navigate, explore and apply these graduate skills, learning to demonstrate and articulate to employers how future skills give you the edge.

Nightlife

With its mix of markets, museums, restaurants and excellent shopping scene, you'll find plenty to eat, see, drink and do in the Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames.

There are also plenty of bars, cafes, clubs and festivals to suit all tastes and budgets, while half an hour on the train will see you arrive in central London, where famous museums, galleries and iconic West End theatre shows await

Halls of residence

Where you live whilst you’re at university can play an important part of your overall experience. Whether you’d like to live on or off campus, we’re here to help you feel at home.

Living in halls is a great way to get to know people as you could be sharing with other students from

different backgrounds or on different courses to you. We have over 2,300 rooms available, taking into account all tastes and budgets. Better still, we prioritise accommodation for our first-year undergraduate students who have firmly accepted an offer with us.

A team of our current students act as Halls Connectors. They help foster a community atmosphere by organising student-led and student-focused activities, which will connect you with other students from the moment you arrive.

Location

The University is located across four teaching campuses, in and around Kingston upon Thames. Our lively, student-friendly riverside town neighbouring Hampton Court Palace and two royal parks is perfect for long walks, deer watching, and quiet study time. Better still, Kingston’s on the doorstep of central London, so you’ll find yourself at the heart of the capital after just a short train ride.

Once you graduate, you'll find Kingston's location is great for employment prospects too. Many companies have headquarters in London or south-east England, which is a real advantage for work placement opportunities and for taking the next step in your career.

Clubs and societies

You’ll find so much to get involved in while you’re with us, whether you want to pursue a passion or try something new. That’s why there’s over 70 societies to choose from, whether you want to campaign for a cause, enjoy playing video games or reading a good book, they’ve got you covered. If there isn’t a society that spikes your interest, the Union can help you run, and fund, your own.

Sport more your thing? There are over 30 different sports clubs at Kingston, including all the usual favourites, from football and hockey to cheerleading and snow sports. Whether you’re an athlete or just want to keep fit, there’s a way to get involved.

The university campuses are nice, the most popular campus get the best treatment and priority. The facilities are nice and looked after well for my course the organisation hasn’t been great but my course is a abit of a low priority to Kingston or maybe that’s just how it feels.
