nightlife

The nightlife in Sheffield is really varied, with many bars and clubs in the popular West Street district playing all kinds of music. Indie, rock, motown, 60s beats, drum and base - just to name a few. And because students are such an important part of the local economy, almost all of the city's bars, cinemas and restaurants offer a student discount, making your money go further.

Sheffield Hallam have over 20 safe and secure halls of residence to suit all budgets and tastes, catering for both undergraduate and postgraduate students. All the halls are in popular student areas near our campuses. You're never more than a 20-minute walk from your lectures - and in most halls it's less than 10. The university offers private sector housing for postgraduates, whether this is a flat in the city centre or a shared house.

location

City Campus is right in the centre of Sheffield, just a few minutes' walk from the train station, and is surrounded by shops, cafés and pubs. Just a 25-minute walk away is Collegiate Campus which mixes some of Sheffield's best bars, markets and restaurants with stunning parks for studying in the sunshine.

clubs and societies

There are over 100 student-run societies covering everything from rock music to Harry Potter, campaigning, scuba diving and cheerleading. Whatever your interests, there will be something for you - and if not we'll help you start your own.

freshers' week

I was based at the City campus and was in the heart of the city. The facilities were fantastic and my department was very supportive. My lecturers provided a lot of contact time and were always easy to get a hold of, and were experts in their subject areas. Couldn’t have wished for a better uni experience.

Good degree, but not much optional modules in first and second year, too much statistics throughout. Style of teaching is good as a lot of it is workshop style rather than typical lectures.

Enjoyable subject with scope for you to choose your own modules, especially in year two and three, to tailor your degree. The lecturers vary in helpfulness but you would probably find that at most universities. Option to study abroad and undertake work placements within sandwich years which I have done and would recommend

BA (Hons) International Business with Languages (German)

I am happy with the fact that my degree is quit broad and it will allow me to get a job in different sectors within the business environment: sales, marketing, human resource, supply chain etc. Also, it is great that as part of my degree I had to study in Germany for 6 months and do a one year placement. This boosted my career prospects considerably. I think learning a new language while doing a totally different degree also helps a lot! In my case mixing business with German again put me in an advantage compared to other students.

Clinical education is my favourite module as it has given me an insight of the job. I have had the opportunity to meet students from different year groups as well as build a great relationships with members of staff in the hospital.
This module has allowed me to develop my skills required as a radiotherapist such as communication skills. I communicate effectively with staff and patients and this is one of the key skills required when interacting with patients on a daily basis.

The leader of this module is enthusiastic and makes every seminar enjoyable. She is very passionate for students to succeed and better themselves, and always finds a way to solve any problems you have. I had a big problem with getting myself a placement and with her enthusiasm and willingness to help, I was able to get a placement and pass the module with a 2:1.
