The University of Bath

Starting university can be really daunting and I probably felt it more so being an international student. That said the move-in days could not have made me felt more comfortable. The hall reps were amazing and always pushed us to go interact with other people in the flat and if we weren’t willing they’d bring others to us which worked out really well. The night socials were really well organised but I felt there weren’t too many events for students who weren’t as keen on partying it out all night long which didn’t necessarily give them too many opportunity to interact with the rest of their flat. That would probably be the only drawback really so I’d suggest holding more daytime events for specific halls.

To attend the freshers events you need to buy a freshers wristband like any other university in the country however, the university doesn’t have enough wristbands to sell for the whole freshers cohort. Therefore, some students including myself couldn’t attend the freshers events alongside our new flat mates which is highly disappointing.

Moving into university for the first time was super daunting but freshers week made it so much easier to get settled in. It was a good way of getting to meet everyone you're living with and all the other first years. You're able to bond with people who are in the same boat as you and enjoy your first week of university together. I met so many people I would have never met if it weren't for freshers week. You were able to go out and have fun with everyone and get involved with clubs and societies that interest you. Freshers week was the best week of my uni experience and everyone in their first year of university should definitely get stuck right into it.

The University of Bath held a great freshers week! All organised by members of the student union, there was plenty to do with multiple events on every day and night. So many opportunities to bond with your new house mates. Wristbands which guaranteed entry cost £65 for the week but other than that most of the people I know hardly spent any extra money so it was worth it.

I really didn't like the Arena events, a lot of people and very sweaty, mostly people had to get very drunk to actually enjoy it.

It was absolutely amazing, I met so many new people, the events were so much fun and I couldn't have had a better time. The socials organised got everyone to know each other and there was always something to do! Best week ever.

good themed club nights every night lots of activities on during the day very welcoming and very fun made lots of memories get the freshers wristband though! a lot of money but saved a lot of queuing as all my friends had one too

One big negative of our freshers week was the wristband confusion - i ended up buying three, and two of them were for bath spa because i didn't want to miss out. despite this, the actual nights were good, if a bit standard e.g. themes were basic. the non-night out events were good, and the fair was okay

The move in experience was so good, I really enjoyed getting to know everyone and everyone was really welcome, a few tips is just to be yourself, they have got to like you for you and no one else, it’s the best time new friends☺️☺️☺️

I was allowed to take car right up to accommodation to unload which made moving in easier. Arena nights were the main events in Freshers week and were good although the acts weren't always great. The bar in the arena was expensive but pres normally sort you out for the night anyway and are a great way to meet your neighbours. More events in the day would've been nice. More events should have been put on specific to my course or accommodation so I could get to know people better. The Freshers week captain's were great fun and told us a lot about university life. However, the peer mentor I was assigned for my course was useless - hardly spoke to us at the peer mentor meet and greet event and has made no contact since. I've just been unlucky with my peer mentor though as many other people seem to get on really well with theirs and find them a great help.

The university is great at helping you settle in. There are some real nice places to go in town, loads of great cafes restaurants. The campus vibe is a great one for first year, I hope that they increase numbers so everyone has a place on campus because you can’t beat it.

Freshers week was a daunting prospect, meeting the people you’re going to be living with for the next year. However I found that the freshers week events pulled us together and got to know my flat mates well. The events themselves were fantastic, and I never had a dull night. If drinking everynight isn’t your thing there were plenty of events run by the SU that catered for that. However if you’re like me and want to go out everynight, you can easily do that.

When I first moved in, there wasn’t a lot of help in terms of information about freshers week or direction about where things were. There weren’t many freshers events and the ones that they had were expensive and far away from the town centre.

Move in to halls was easy as anything, the student helpers were incredibly helpful and patient. Meeting new people is easy, everyone's in the same boat as you, coming away from home for the first time, and everyone goes out of their way to meet someone new. If you have a communal fridge, grab a shelf as soon as possible - the better ones will get filled quicker than you think. Get a house as soon as possible, but don't worry if you don't get your first choice house.

Moving in went very smoothly but the events they had planned for freshers week were a joke, felt like i was at a primary school disco - for 75£

Well organised events but very expensive and long ques. Drinks were a reasonably price but then wristband for cases to events was not worth the money.

Move in was good, accommodation was terrible and unclean, the events at night lacked variety and most importantly fun. It wasn’t the massive party it was hyped to be and could take a note out of some Australian universities books for freshers week.

Go to as many sports club/societies as possible to build a network across your University! Also first year is not as easy as people tell you, so work hard.

I've never really been a fan of most of the things that go on during fresher's week from what I've heard from others... Not that I didn't try to include myself in these events to get to know my roommates, but arriving a bit later than most of them AND my views on the general party/nightclub scene made me very sceptical that I'd actually make any friends at all at university. However, I did manage to meet people; and to quote from the all-time classic "the cat in the hat" with regards to my "social" "life", 'those who mind don't matter, and those who matter don't mind'.

Great move in and flat Some Freshers events were a little disappointing The Freshers fair was alright but didn't get enough freebies so very disappointed in myself for that

A week to be remembered, crazy, timebomb, exciting, fancy dress, arena, bubble, socialising, prinks, amazing experience!!
