I met so many people in freshers week but my close friends I met months later. I feel more could have been done to make freshers feel at ease

The freshers fair was good once inside but unfortunately because of the location the queues were horrendous and so it took well over half an hour to get inside. The events during the week were varied but actually quite poorly organised. The halls I lived in were fantastic for moving in, with very little fuss and a good tour around the area.

People really tend to have expectations of freshers’ week that are far too high for what the reality of the situation is. You’re literally clubbing with strangers

There were good events but I wouldn't buy any tickets before you go to uni. You want to go with people you meet and not just randomly go to clubs and parties immediately. Clubs especially fail because you don't know anyone and it just is weird clubbing by yourself with people you just met.

Great freshers week! Loads of nights out and different things to do and plenty of opportunities to meet people in and outside of your halls! Also lots of great clubs and societies to sign up to.

Beer, food, beer, food, beer, food, and so on, occasionally a bit of sleep but only when it’s starting to get light... freshers is effectively your schools “induction/meeting day” dragged out into a week or more. However because it’s uni there is copious quantities of alcohol and over rated nights out, I’m not complaining.

The nights out were really good. Met loads of people very quickly because of them. There could have been more organised on the first day though - everyone was just kind of milling around and the design of my building made it that my room was pretty disconnected from anyone else on my floor.

Freshers was great fun, meeting and getting to know loads of new people was a unique experience and one that won’t happen in the same way again! Introductory talks helped settle us in and going out every night was a good laugh.

The freshers events organised by the SU were very poor. The wristband was fairly cheap, but some of the events were awful. Considering Bristol as a whole has a great night life, it was very disappointing. There was also minimal attempts to encourage hall bonding - eg no tshirts, no bar crawls or anything. Same for subjects. There was also basically no non-night our things worth going to besides the freshers fair.

My halls provided lots of help in moving in on the official moving in weekend making it very easy, we were given welcome packs on arrival with information about the city and various freshers events. Freshers week is weird because you’ll meet so many people that you most probably won’t talk to again but lots of fun getting to know your flat mates and course mates. For new students I would definitely say take part in as many freshers events as possible and sign up to loads of societies that will keep you posted on different events throughout the year.

Was really excited to start uni but the club events and nights out put on by the uni were hugely over-hyped and overpriced however.

I enjoyed moving in a new home and meeting new people from all cultural backgrounds. Everyone was really friendly and helpful. I have a good time every night when all the housemates gather and get to know each other. Overall, i had a good experience the first days.

Met quite a lot of people, there were events to socialise and get to know your tutors, easy to get around as there were many signs posted around and people to show the way

Lack of university ran events during freshers week, not enough integration. Social spaces and facility to meet new people not utilised to the full extent

Move in experience was very streamlined, no problems of note. Accommodation assisted in meeting people through socials in the building (Unite House). Outside of official socials, there will be things going on around the building regardless since everyone is meeting new people. The event experience, in my opinion, was quite expensive for the most part. Early nights in the week at venues such as motion and swx were decent. However, the price of the events started to rise without the quality of the event's theme or guest performances increasing as a result also (Costed 20 pounds to see a Nick Grimshaw DJ set). Freshers fair provided very good discounts to students settling in. Did everything you would expect from a fair; discounts, society introductions and free food in designated eating areas. The place was very spacious so there was never really over-crowding outside, but the tents were packed with people.
