Central Lancashire University

About University of Central Lancashire

Founded in 1828 as the Institution for the Diffusion of Knowledge, the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) has been committed to educating people from all walks of life since its foundation. With 400 undergraduate and over 200 postgraduate courses, the University has something to offer students of any level.

Campus

UCLan’s main campus is located in Preston, Lancashire. The university has recently launched a £200 million campaign to modernise the campus and integrate it with the city around it. This initiative will add an Engineering Innovation Centre, a Student Support Centre and new landscape developments.

Student Life

1 in 5 people in Preston are students so it’s no surprise that the city enjoys a lively and like-minded community for undergraduates and postgraduates alike. With numerous historic buildings, parks, cafes and clubs, there’s no shortage of things to see and do. The Student’s Union has an event and live music venue with a capacity of up to 1,750 people.

Great facilities, good staff, friendly canpus. Preston is not the best city in terms of weather etc, but the university makes it all worth it. Very accessible for students, 24 hour library and free gym lass are particular strong points

Excellent location, right next to the town centre which is very handy. The size of the campus is great, lots of space. The staff are always very friendly and help in any way they can. I always get great service when usuing the facilities available including at the students union. My 3 years at this university has been an experience I will remember forever.

There is a broad content of information in the course in third year; less so in second and first year but this is because of BPS guidelines. However, I don't think there is as much choice of modules going into third year, as you are led to believe. Academic advisors are only there to see you if you have a problem; I believe that it would be more beneficial if they arranged to meet you semester-ly or monthly to discuss how you are getting on. You are expected to do everything for yourself, and often assignment topics haven't even been covered in lecture.
