AVOID I have been to a few universities but never have I seen such chaos. The learning material is full of errors, my tutor has been rude, vague and unhelpful and missed many mistake when correcting some weekly activities leading me to a lot of confusion. The marking is very inconsistent and my course leader has been very unhelpful. After a year I am looking at moving my credits to another university and probably bring many people from my course with me.

As an a-level student that took biology, chemistry, and maths, the decision to do this degree was quite daunting, due to my lack of experience in the subject. However, it turned out to be the best decision I could have made, and I have thoroughly enjoyed the doing the foundation degree, so much so, I am doing the top up third year to gain a full degree in culinary arts.

The course is wonderful! You must have passion for helping people and you must be determined and open minded. The course is like any other course in terms of assignments and deadlines. However, there is one great thing, THERE IS ONLY ONE EXAM throughout the entire 3 years of the course!!!! How much better can it get? The tutors are very helpful and if you love helping people and being a part of their recovery, then this is definitely the course for you!

Being able to study both courses at once wad important to me and so I'm very happy with Derby offering the joint honours pathway. Content for ECS is very engaging and relevant (types of abuse, language development, family dynamics) and the lecturers, I found, all had a genuine passion when teaching which helps to keep me focused on the topic. As psychology is my main subject, I cover many more topics there (sleep, schizophrenia, memory, developmental aspects). The lectures are very informative but rather fast paced and so it's hard to keep up sometimes.

Course module review - Public History: Marketing and Presenting the Past, 22/05/2016

Submitted by Anonymous on

The public history module is unique as far as I can see in undergrad level, it requires in groups to research, write, market and present a conference paper for a conference put on by the university. This module was great as it allowed me to not just word academically but allowed me to learn skills such as marketing and website building. It also has given me the most self joy as it was amazing being about to present my research to the public.

Course module review - Practice Placement Education 1, 21/05/2016

Going on placement is a massive part of this degree and I only feel there should be more days involved. Being a full time student on placement teaches you many things about the real world and actually helps to give you confidence when you are applying for jobs as you begin to recognise you meet person specifications.

Course module review - Professional Practice, 10/05/2016

Definitely the hardest module that I have ever taken. I believe this to be more important that the IS itself simply because it requires you to do a number of different things in a short period of time, act on the spot and sort out your own time. it was difficult to do this but regardless, I believe that it is one core module from the whole degree, as this module encompasses every aspect that you have learned and places it into one piece of coursework.
