Why Study Here

Join our world. Making friends with people you live with and meeting those who share your love for your subject is one of the best things about coming to university. You’ll meet people from all over the world, and they’ll become the friends you hang out with in the cafés and bars, rely on in exam season, and party with in the on-campus club.

Expand your thinking. Your degree, your way. Get ready for an exciting journey of exploration, independence and discovery. Your lecturers will guide and inspire you and introduce you to cutting-edge knowledge and ideas.

Make it real. Bring your new knowledge to life by getting out into the real world and putting it into practice. Choose a module that gives you hands-on experience, take a placement or gain expertise in real-life situations to give yourself a head start in your career.

Build a better world. Our graduates are out there, making a difference. And you can too – right from the start. Volunteering is big at Kent and our team are doing fantastic work in the local community. And there’s our fundraising society, Raise and Give, that raises an incredible amount of money each year.

Home from home

We have a great choice of accommodation and you’ll soon make your room your own. All bills, including internet access and limited insurance cover for personal possessions, are included in the cost.

  • Rooms at Canterbury.  A choice of shared houses or flats, or a room in a traditional college. You can choose to have meals included, or cook for yourself. All the accommodation at Canterbury is on-campus, so you’ll always bump into someone you know and everything is close by.
  • Rooms at Medway. You’ll stay in Pier Quays in a self-catered flat. There’s a Tesco Express right next door so you don’t have to go far to get your shopping! Pier Quays is a quick walk from the campus, or you can grab the free shuttle bus. One of the great things about Pier Quays is you can apply to live there in your second and third year too.

Our campuses

We’re lucky to have stunning campuses that are a great backdrop to your new life.

Safe, Study, Social

Looking after all members of our community is our priority, and we’ve put measures in place to make it easy for us all to stay safe. In the autumn, although the way you are taught will change, the quality of the teaching will still be of the highest standard. Every year we run welcome events to help our new students to feel at home and make our returning students glad to be back. We’ve been thinking creatively and, while things will be different, you can be sure that you’ll receive a very warm welcome, you’ll be safe and you’ll be able to enjoy your first year. Check out the Safe, Study, Social pages for more details.

Social life

Canterbury. You’ll have a great time on our Canterbury campus. As well as bars and cafés, we have our own theatre, cinema and an incredible concert hall. However, you’ll definitely want to check out Canterbury itself. It’s a fantastic city – great bars, traditional pubs, live music, loads of restaurants, quirky cafés, and plenty of student-friendly discounts when you want to hit the shops. It’s lively enough to keep you entertained, but not so overwhelming that you’ll feel lost. It’s about 25 minutes’ walk into the city from the campus but you can also hop on a bus that will take you into the city centre.

Medway. The campus is close to the towns of Rochester and Chatham. There’s great places to shop and eat, a thriving music scene and great opportunities to try differents sports available in the region – there’s a dry ski slope, an ice rink, go-karting and an Olympic-standard trampoline centre! If you’re after something more chilled out, there are beautiful open spaces, cycle and nature trails. The campus is on a bus route and, if you want to explore Canterbury, you can use the free Campus Shuttle during term-time.

Student groups

Whether you’re looking to try something new, or carry on with a lifelong passion, our student-run groups are a perfect way to throw yourself into uni life. Love to dance? You can try Salsa, Brazilian Zouk and Swing (and that’s just for starters).  Passionate about current affairs? Join the debating society. Want to boost your wellbeing? There’s yoga, mindfulness and therapeutic arts.  Take a look at what’s on offer from Kent Union and GKSU at Medway

University of Kent disappointed me when it comes to providing a student a full university life experiences. Due to the course I chose, i was based i medway campus which did not have much facilities around for me to be able to have fun. It is because of the friends I made during my first year, I cancelled my decision to transfer to different uni. The first few months in the medway was dreadful. I had lots of expectations from how exciting Uni life will with all the social and night life aspect. But it clearly is not, mainly in the Medway campus. Also, it feels like the Uni is purposely trying to separate the medway campus from the main Canterbury campus. Even the graduation for the medway students are not held in the Canterbury cathedral but somewhere else. If you decide to study in Kent and in the medway campus(because of your course), i would highly suggest to do your research first. If you want a good social and night life, it isn't for you. If you just want a quiet life then it might be.

Genuinely a really nice university. Staff are really caring and make effort to make the subjects interesting. Fabulous location- enough nightlife to keep you happy without it being overwhelmingly busy. Lovely campus
