A Russell Group university, Leeds has consistently been voted in the top 10 universities by the likes of The Sunday Times Good University Guide 2018 and the Guardian University Guide 2019. Claiming the top spot in 2017, a national student survey found that 89% of final year Leeds students said that they were either satisfied or very satisfied with the overall quality of their course that very same year.

Nightlife

Leeds boasts a buzzing nightlife, which ranges from clubs and bars to theatres and restaurants. With a diverse, LGBT-friendly range of options to pick from, there’s something for everyone in Leeds. Clubs and societies

The university offers students the choice between over 300 clubs and societies including the infamous ‘Stitch ‘n’ Bitch’ and the ever-increasingly popular Quidditch. The clubs and societies range from academic, cultural, religious, sports, volunteering, political, outdoor and arts, ensuring everyone at Leeds finds something they love.

Location

Having campus just a 10-minute walk away from the City Centre, students are able to enjoy a shopping centre, a cinema and a range of restaurants when they need a break from studying.

Campus is in a great location, the whole university is enclosed in one area, yet its 15-20 min walk from the centre of town, and its a great blend of old and new.

Course module review - Portuguese Language for Beginners 1A, 11/03/2017

Portuguese Language for Beginners 1A

This is a first year module and was split into two halves; grammar and vocabulary/aural classes. I did find that by the end of first year despite knowing lots of grammar, my speaking was very poor. Classes weren't huge but even with 20 people or so it is very difficult to get one on one time with the teacher to speak.
I did however find that I was amazed at how far I'd come in a year with written Portuguese. I built up a good base of vocabulary and was able to write well because I knew the grammar.

This is the core module when you study straight Japanese; it is great the way that they tackle things from the beginning. It gives you a great foundation to start on when you have never learnt it before, or even if you have learnt a little bit. The regular vocabulary and kanji tests are very useful (although they do require you to work hard) because it means you are picking up things along the way, and sometimes you don't even notice it!
