The University of Leeds

In my opinion Leeds university is the best in the UK. Why? Well the Guardian has already confirmed this.. but .. it is the only university in the UK to be fun and still a red brick decent uni. Except maybe Bristol, but the cost of living down there is ridiculous so.. case closed. However, if you are really looking to crack on with your work, not party and are weak willed this probably isn't the place for you. Some of the courses are also better than others. I have been told that the design courses are pretty poor and so is the nursing. Most of the money is poured into the maths and science departments. Consequently the research facilities in these areas are top notch and good if you want to do a PhD. Campus is very nice, Student halls are mega $$$$ - and some are too far away ( cough Clarence dock ). Students union is good and just been renovated . Loooads of fooood options and some other crap in there . Overall , great experience and if you manage to get a degree at the end , even better.

Recent union renovation is fantastic - especially by including the new Wok & Go and Humpit Also, while there is lots of new renovation, the traditional-ness of the university is still beautiful (i.e. Parkinson building and the Great Hall)

The campus is the perfect location, being close to town and accommodation, so it's great to be in such a big city still with a close knit campus and union. The recent changes in the union and the main foyer have been great to see and definitely make the place seem a lot more welcoming!!!

Campus is quite small, but this is a total benefit since it means getting places is quick and easy, plus you're always bumping into people you know. The union is amazing, the night out there is lot's of people's highlight of the week. It has a number of shops and places to get food at, and two bars - old bar and terrace, with amazing drink's offers. There's a gym on campus (The edge), and a number of clusters, labs, dotted around. There's also 3 libraries - Laidlaw which is practically brand new, Edward Boyle which has just undergone refurbishment and Brotherton, which is beautiful inside. A lot of the buildings are undergoing/have undergone renovations recently meaning that they're in a very good state. My course is very hard and not very well taught or organised. However the content is interesting, if you read outside of the lectures.

You are basically just a customer among 30,000 others. You could be dead in a ditch and no one would know. I'm a law school alumni and I absolutely hated my course. The staff didn't give a damn about the students, they were just focused on their research. Also, there was inconsistency in teaching and it was really down to luck in determining how well you did. For example, my dissertation supervisor in the final year could barely speak English yet other students had supervisors that basically edited their whole dissertation for them - this was a 40 credit module!

I am a first-year student and am loving my time at Leeds so far!! Everyone here is so friendly and supportive and I never feel afraid to ask questions, whether it be in lectures, on campus, or just to people passing by; there will always be someone who has an answer to your queries or questions. The facilities are fantastic and accessible to all and there is always something for everyone-and I mean everyone- to enjoy, ranging from nights out, pub quizzes, taster activities for groups and societies and even weekend trips to cities like Edinburgh and London- I would thoroughly recommend joining at least one of Leeds' societies! As well as the fantastic and expert teaching in lectures and seminars, where we have already covered a range of fascinating and diverse topics, ranging from literature, language and popular culture, there are many resources for students including skills workshops which are excellent when it comes to learning indispensable skills such as researching, referencing, time management and critical thinking-why would you not want to make the most of such excellent resources? Overall, my first semester so far at Leeds has been a great time and I cannot wait for the next few years of fun, learning and adventure!

Excellent sports facilities on a campus that is really easy to navigate around. Close enough to the city for access to shopping and socialising but far enough away for you to get the university buzz around the campus. The students Union was voted the best in the country and you can see why, offers everything you could ever want from a SU building

I have loved my 4 years at Leeds Uni- the teaching and facilities are excellent and the university really listens to the student voice to make beneficial changes that we see quickly.

The student union provides a welcoming and warm atmosphere for students to meet for coffee, but neccessities, or just take a break. The campus often holds events catered to different groups of students too.
