University of Northumbria at Newcastle

Course facilities are brilliant, all my lecturers are approachable and offer differing views on topics. The library is open 24/7 which means exam periods are easier because you are able to move into the library. The campus is in a good city centre location and the student bar is cheap.

On the whole the university is fantastic. Education wise - excellent facilities and learning environment, with staff helpful and motivated to help students better themselves. As the polytechnic university in the city, the architecture of the campus is certainly secondary to Newcastle uni, however Northumbria still benefits from a city centre location and amenities.

Great location and city. Business School is new and library is good. Student Union is engaging and career services are helpful. Course was okay. So many study abroad opportunities which made an amazing time for the whole thing.

Couldn’t be better. The uni and all of its facilities are top notch. From the faculty to the football it’s just superb.

The facilities at Northumbria Uni are just fantastic and I really enjoyed my time here. The gym and swimming pool were particularly my favourites. I loved partying the night away in the Student Union too.

Northumbria University is a constantly improving university. Although it may not compare to the likes of Newcastle university across the road in terms of facitilites, for example in the sciences department, because of funding, it is trying to improve. With a new engineering and IT building it will not be long before Northumbria University is the place to go to.

The staff is super easy going, I found the uni to be amazing on all aspects I just completed the first year and I really enjoyed it. The facilites are all new and the way the lectures are structured really helped me learn a lot. The staff is great they will provide you with loads of extra material and references to really get the knowledge you need also there are loads of societies you can join and always loads of events and initiatives you can take part in. You are made to feel welcome no matter your educational background and it's a very diverse and modern university. I love it and I am glad to have chosen it.

A great university for creative subjects, very helpful tutors and technicians in he fashion department. A lot of help from the Student Union whenever or whatever you need it for. Brand new library with state of the art equipment and a great friendly atmosphere both in and out of campus.

While the facilites are addequete the university is heavly focused on sports and as such certain areas can be found to be lacking when taking other subjects. During my time studying engineering it was often a struggle finding the resources needed to aid with lectures. The lectures themselves were plain white pages of powerpoint and the proffesors often had inadequete qualifications for such a role. The language barrior with 90% of the lectureres been from a different country on a maths based subject caused grades to suffer significantly as youtube was often used for learning instead.

The Business School has fantastic facilities with plenty of group stations, PCs and classrooms which can be used by students 24/7. The library also gives access to thousands of books and journals applicable to a range of courses, with vast amounts of space to work in both quiet and relaxed conditions.

City campus is modern and has everything a student needs. Though difficult at first to navigate there’s plenty of friendly people to help you. They put their students first which is the main thing! Security’s the best with great teams and an app on phone it’s relieving to know help is just a button away!

Clean environment. Nice people attend this university. The food is expensive here. Great support from guidance tutors. Great opportunities available by attending this university including research, which is also a great way to make extra money as a student. A bus which is free with a valid Northumbria student card makes it easy to travel into Newcastle city centre from the life science campus (coach lane) which makes it easier for students to attend university (e.g cheap, financially beneficial to students). I would recommended this university to someone as it is easily accessible and it is a great supportive university. Allows a free printing balance so that it is easy to print off university work (free) and the library opening times are great! They can fit into any individuals schedule and are understandable that students can have difficult lives outside of university and can have other things on, they refer you to student support and also do their best if needed to give you an extension on hand ins or deadlines.

I love my university as it has allowed me to not only study the subject I love but also meet people who share the same passions. I am so glad I chose to come here!

My time at Northumbria University has been the best three years of my life. All starting in freshers week I was given the best flatmates ever, I think it’s the most important thing of first year; to get into the mentality of making friends and meeting new people as you’ll set yourself up for the next three years making friends and memories. My course, fashion communication has guided me in the right direction for the career that I want to pursue and really helped me grow as an individual, I’ve been given so many amazing opportunities and traveled to so many amazing and niche places because of it. Newcastle is the best city ever and nowhere does St Paddys day like it.

The campus is an inclusive fun place to be. You feel welcomed and happy around the other students. The course layout is great however 2nd year has been difficult. The SU is the most amazing SU always lively amazing staff and a great atmosphere.

Northumbria University has a positive atmosphere round campus, where you feel safe and secure at all times. Facilities are okay although in some areas still quite dated whilst other areas are very modern, so quite the contrast.

This university sadly lacks organisation and fails to pay close attention to its students. Studying here for 4 years I have noticed the lack of support from staff when it comes down to PEC issues and clarity on assignment briefs. Sometimes you feel that the lecturers prioritise their own personal academic research over their students on undergraduate courses. The environmental science course that I study is badly organised and the work load is not proportional, with the majority of assignments (worth half of your whole degree mark) having deadlines all in the same week. Shockingly lectures and dissertation supervisors go on annual leave, do not tell their students, and return the day before major deadlines and are uncontactable via email as they refuse to answer them or ‘fail to see them’. The majority of lecturers use the same material from previous years in their presentations, often failing to change dates on slides or update material. Lectures tend to be very informal, irrelevant to assignment briefs and not very interesting. It always amazes me why lectures are surprised at low attendance in their classes and how this reflects in low averages interms of assignment marks, when they fail to make course topics interesting or relevant. Feedback on assignments is usually unhelpful, assignments are usually handed back to students well after the university’s 20 day policy which is a shame as it restricts students awareness of their works quality and limits time to improve, especially for modules that have 3/4 assignments in close proximity of each other. Work is supposed to be marked anonymously but often isn’t and despite trying to do everything to meet the 70% and above grade criteria, th for university seems reluctant to give th we grades to it’s pupil, despite many feeling like they have achieved this.

I’m studying adult nursing at coach lane campus, it’s such a good course and so many friendly people, and the staff are so nice and understanding and help a lot! I’d recommend Northumbria University to everyone

The campus of Northumbria university is huge. Well, at least I find it huge. As an international student i havent seen such a nice place before. It offer a lot of opportunities and any type of facilities. It has a sport centre including a gym, volleyball and basketball stadium and even a pool. It can be used only if you buy a card but it is not that expensive so if you really want to go to the gym or to swim in the pool you can afford it. Everyone is really friendly and ready to help you if you are in need if something. There is also ask for help in the library which is open 24/7 so any time you have a question you can either go or call them and they are always ready to respond. The buildings near the campus are new and comfortable.

For creative courses the university doesn't offer much chance to collaborate with other subjects. They don't have many business/ entrepreneurial opportunities on offer or are widely known about. However my turtles are very knowledgeable and supportive. They are passionate about their subjects and are always available to talk/ discuss.

Coach lane campus is not a nice campus and unfortunately where I am based. Although main campus is really nice and clearly where the money goes which is not great for myself. My course is often pointless lectures and find to be a waste of time!
