The University of Sheffield (informally Sheffield University) is a research university in the city of Sheffield in South Yorkshire. It is a member of the prestigious Russell Group of research-intensive universities and is regarded as one of the original redbrick universities. The University of Sheffield is widely recognised as a leading research and teaching university both in the UK and in the world.
While the university of Sheffield is not a campus university, most of its buildings can be found close to the city centre. The University owns and operates a large number of historically significant buildings as well as attractive modern additions. The Diamond, a new £81 million building housing lecture theatres, laboratories and other facilities opened its doors in September 2015.
Famous for its vibrant nightlife and diverse range of opportunities, Sheffield is one of the best cities for students in the UK. The University of Sheffield Students' Union dates back to 1906 and offers two bars, three club venues and numerous shops and foot outlets. A student run cinema, Film Unit, can be found on campus.
I have just finished my second year and the university and so far I have had an incredible experience. The students union is just fantastic, it offers such a wide range of activities and resources in comparison to the other universities I looked at. I study maths with spanish and have found it interesting though challenging st times, the only issue I have had has been communications between departments and length of Spabjsh classes (3 hours). Having suffered with mental health problems and struggling through grief I found the university services extremely helpful, allowing me to continue my studies throughout the difficulties.
The University of Sheffield has professionals who encourage students to explore, learn and become passionate about the subjects.
