Good cheap nightlife. The staff are mostly friendly. Some of the lecturers need to retire as they are clearly too old or just not suited to lecturing at all as they show no enthusiasm towards teaching.

The campus is well layed out and close together so everything is within a maximum of a ten minute walk. The students union is centered in the middle with the libraries close by. The SU is voted one of the best in the country which is reflected as you walk in

Biomedical science is a really broad subject. At Sheffield university you are required to do 2 years of compulsory modules (whether you like them or not!), such as Developmental Biology, Physiology and Pharmacology and anatomy. The degree is taught mainly through lectures, up to 15 hours a week, with labs throughout the whole 3 years. 2nd year is worth 30% of the final degree. In 3rd year you are able to chose your modules depending on the route you choose, be it medicine, pharmacology, developmental or cell and molecular. In each you have core modules plus additional modules.

The organisation of the course is not very well thought out. There is a lack of choice when it comes to modules and most of them are really general. You get to have 6 modules a year (20 credits each) but they are badly divided so sometimes you might get two lectures a week and do nothing for months then have 2 weeks in which you have 3 exams. I believe the University has a major effect on the poor organisation, as people from other Universities doing the same degree are actually learning and working on very interesting projects.

Course content has been varied and interesting, to a good level of complexity but the structure of teaching and examinations has sometimes lacked organisation. Some 20 credit modules have been split into two unrelated halves but still examined together, making revision more difficult than it needed to be. If you enjoy laboratory based work, this is not the chemical engineering course best suited to you as lab sessions are a very small part of the course.

Course module review - Comparative Histories of Education, 06/04/2018

Submitted by Anonymous on

I chose this module thinking that it would be an interesting and exciting one and with the intention of learning a little more about where education systems come from. I couldn't have been more wrong. The lecturer delivers a very brief overview of certain elements and spends a great deal of time off topic. He delivers this in a rather dull way as though he himself is bored of what he is teaching. I have been grateful for the strikes to avoid this module.

Course module review - Architectural Design 1, 11/03/2017

I am now in my second year of this course and so I have to do this module with the first year architects. In first year you basically do 4 of the same modules as the first year (now second year) architects (these modules are not studio related) but in second year you start to work in the studio with the first year architects. So far I am enjoying it. We are already on our second project so it's very fast pace. Theres always lots to do so its a great challenge and there are many teachers in the studio to help and they are all willing to help via email which is great too.

Course module review - Punishment and Penal Policy, 11/03/2017

Submitted by Anonymous on

I enjoyed this module, and can only really fault the assessment. The content was interesting, ranging from areas like community sentences, custodial sentences etc to parole and privatisation. It seemed a bit too easy in lectures, but there was more to it when you did some of the recommended reading and discuss things in seminars. I didn't like that there wasn't an essay or any other assessments for this module like we had in most other criminology modules, and there was only a 3 hour exam to answer 3 questions.
