York uni is a campus based uni and the fact that everything is close to each other is definitely an advantage. The accommodation, academic departments and on campus bars and restaurants are all within walking distance. I love the many events that are always happening on campus too, and if needs be the city of York is 15 mins away by bus. Personally I am really enjoying my course at this uni, it's fascinating to learn more about a subject I'm genuinely interested in as well as meeting the best people doing it. Overall it's an experience I would definitely recommend

A wonderful university in the heart of a lovely city. Course leaders are so helpful and STYC support as a fresher is so important and helpful

We have some great opportunities here, with the student union constantly organising some of the best events from small sport tournaments to bungee jumping for charity. Although the campus doesn't look very picturesque it does have a charm to it and the learning facilities are wonderful. My favourite thing however is probably the gym facilities and the roses event; wonderful for people who love sport and competing. Even if the university looks fairly industrial, the city of York ddfiantly makes up for it. York is without doubt the most beautiful city in England.

Coming from a less healthy family the support given to me through York University has been very helpful whenever I was struggling. My OH BTW friends are also very pleased with how open minded the university is, also ready to help out and spread the right message.

Probably the worst quality of York University is how bad unity health is. They are terrible at helping with mental health and even just getting an appointment is very difficult.

I have met a range of students from abroad all of which are very happy with the support York University provides. I myself am international but lived in England for a long time and can confirm, York University is brilliant.

Although personally not effected, the university from small observations appears to have very good facilities for disabled students.

York's campus buildings are not particularly attractive unless 1960s style brutalism is your thing. The lake makes up for it though -- there are definitely some Instagram-worthy views of campus. I studied English literature. The contact hours are unsurprisingly minimal. This means that there's a lot of reading and independent study involved. When I first got to Uni, it was slightly jarring to only have a couple of things to turn up to per week, but the free time you do have should be spent in the library if you're pushing for the top grades. The sports facilities are excellent, especially the Sports village on the Heslington East campus, but the cost of membership is pretty high.

Overall had a positive experience. Good selection of bars on campus. Ugly buildings but that doesn’t really affect uni experience. Politics course was varied and well taught; had some bad seminar tutors here and there and some lazy feedback but overall good. Friendly staff and nice students. Overall a nice uni experience.

I adored my time at York. The campus is all together but also close to the city centre. The growing facilities on both Hes east and hes west mean there is a lot of variety in food and drink outlets and always a good deal to be had at YUSU venues. The on site club nights are always cheap and absolutely brilliant. Only complaint is the student doctors practice. In my experience they weren't very good- particularly with mental health issues.

The LGBT societies on campus are thriving and make up for the lack of LGBT space within the city itself. The uni isn't the best for students from poor backgrounds but with a new working class officer I believe they're trying to improve.

Campus is ideally located for access tot he town and provides a lovely sense of community. Facilities are generally good but the library is not big enough to cater for all students during exam season. Most staff members go above and beyond for their students. Mental health provisions are limited and thus has resulted in mediocre healthcare for a larger number of student s struggling with mental health. Career services are good, very hard to be seen but teach you how to get employed very well. Experience overall is a 4/5.

The university offers a wide range of courses including Medicine and Nursing. It is a relatively small university population but has a variety of students from many places including international students, and is very inclusive. I study Medicine, the course is very well tailored to students who want more direct support from tutors, however the delivery of lectures at university is sometimes poor due to them, a lot of the time, being streamed inefficiently from Hull (as we are partnered with the University of Hull).

As a student who is LGBT and from a poorer background, I feel supported in both areas. A friend of mine runs the LGBT society at the University which does a lot for students who identify as LGBT. Additionally there are bursaries and hardship funds available for students from poorer backgrounds, and the student support service is good at signposting students to these.

The Unity Health GP on campus is very poorly organisation and I had to switch to a practice within York city centre. I have asked many time for an appointment at this surgery, however students have to go through an online booking system (which has only recently been changed to a telephone service after 2 years of me being here). When I was going through some mental health issues, no one from the surgery ever responded to my online consultation for an appointment which is completely unacceptable.

The campus buildings are quite old fashioned and ugly, and central hall is a bit of an eyesore but overall I think the campus is beautiful, I like the fact that the lake is the central feature and Greg’s Place is lovely to sit in when it’s sunny. I study mathematics and I enjoy this course mainly, however I’m not sure the university dealt with the strikes in the best way. I don’t enjoy the way they deal with final year projects as well because I feel like they throw us in the deep end with no experience and expect us to know what to do. I enjoy being a part of this university and the student union do organise some enjoyable events, such as the summer ball and Roses events.

I study English Literature and the pastoral care within the department is incredible. The lecturers all genuinely care about the course content and it comes across in lectures and seminars and helps engage the students. The freedom within the course is also very rare and helped make the dissertation seem less daunting.

York is a great uni in terms of offering the full spectrum of campus facilities, teaching and support, but some things need improving, mainly the open door team mental health facilities. These rarely help a lot of students and the waiting lists are insanely long.

The campus is a nice campus, but this year there's been all year which has been a bit annoying. The facilities are mostly good, however the food on campus is very pricey considering it's supposed to be for students. I do electronic engineering, I think my course is really intense, some days we had lectures, labs and work shops that made the day 9-5 in the second term which was stressful because you're expected to study more on top of that. Overall, it's good because the quality of teaching is good. I don't really use the careers service or student union so I can't really comment but they look useful. I think this year has been a bit disorganised because of the strikes and snow.
