About Queen Mary, University of London

Queen Mary is part of the University of London but has its roots in four historic colleges: Queen Mary College, Westfield College, St Bartholomew's Hospital Medical College and the London Hospital Medical College. It is primarily based in the Mile End area of Tower Hamlets.

Campus

The University boasts the largest self-contained student campus within central London, located close to a large number of landmarks and noteworthy sites. The central site contains cafes, a bar, restaurants, a gym, a student shop, a bookshop and more.

Student Life

Given its location in the heart of London, there’s no shortage of places for students to explore. On campus, there are over 200 societies, 60 sports clubs and a variety of media outlets. A student volunteering group, Provide, offers numerous opportunities to students to help them find causes they care about and develop their skills.

The events are all good fun and everyone is always really friendly, but it probably doesn't quite live up to the hype that everyone makes it out to be.

Great campus with plenty of places to hang out, in East/Central London, so close to Bricklane and Whitechapel and the nightlife! Great food on campus and Drapers bar to hang out at night! The Campus has new buildings this year, lecture halls with space and plus for laptops. The gym on campus is well equipped and has great classes going on all the time, plus lots of membership options for those who want off peak. The library could be better, it could be bigger, have more plug sockets and resources. And the student union could be more serious and more student oriented.

This course is poorly structured. There is a lot of group work (for my first semester 3 out of 4 modules contained group work) and most of the time you will not get to choose who is in it. For one of the modules, group work is worth a useless 5% of that module and for another it is worth 30%. Whilst I understand that group work and presentations are important skills to have, they are extremely different in a work environment than at university.

I really enjoyed M208 which was challenging at times but the feeling when it "clicks" was great.

My advice to anyone would be that you do need to spend a lot of time with it and the key to the exam is: past papers, past papers, past papers!

The moderators on the forum were fantastic - when do these people sleep?! I would post a question late in the evening and a response would soon be posted.

Go to the tutorials if possible, there are some concepts in pure maths that just need a different "voice" and then it all becomes apparent

The module was very well taught, starting from the most basic things until everyone was able to understand what happened during a particular disease and how that could be stopped. Feedback was always given promptly, and the coursework was useful and stimulating. Not so complex, everything is pretty straightforward.

This was my favourite module for my first year. There was a new area of study every week covering broad topics in international relations. The module leaders and lecturers were really helpful and my seminar tutor was very knowledgeable and engaging.
