good reputation, contacts, events, opportunities but teaching can be sub standard making the workload more intense as you have to teach yourself a lot

The beauty of LSE is that although it’s in the centre of London, we do have quite a big campus. It’s very well connected, the commute there doesn’t take long wherever you come from. However, the student satisfaction is low for a reason: there is a very poor quality student support (my academic advisor told me to party the first year, and then didn’t answer for 3 months in the second year) and there is definitely room for teaching improvement.

Overall LSE provides incredible opportunities however unlike many other universities it is up to the students themselves to put themselves out of their comfort zone to take advantage of them. LSE gets a bad rep for having terrible social life but being in London there are so many things to do. It’s true that the university itself doesn’t help to show the possibilities so once again it’s up to the students to make their own friends who also like to share similar experiences; whether it’s clubbing or chilling in a bar.

The library is great, iSoc is fantastic, the lecturers aren't very engaging and the students in the maths dept are not into collaborative learning. All the hard work has to come from you.

Good facilities and perks from uni's reputation! But quality of uni and social life varies largely with the department you are in, your involvement in societies and hence the people you meet.

The library whilst architecturally beautiful does not have a lot of space to study. I think it would be a good idea to create more study space for students (as in order to guarantee a seat you must arrive before 8am in exam time).

LSE is fantastic for a postgraduate experience. The teaching is top quality and the resources are great, as well as the career services. However I would not say it is the friendliest university in the world, and the social life is quite lacking. Sports are, as expected, a tiny part of student life. Halls for both UG and PG are quite far away, although for London reasonably priced. Overall I would recommend for PG students, but for the full UG experience, I would look elsewhere.

I study law and I find the course itself incredibly engaging, challenging and thought-provoking. The support you get varies from course to course but overall I’ve received a decent amount of help. LSE life and LSE careers service is really accessible and helpful.

MSc Political Economy of Europe, taught by professors who actually wrote the papers you are required to read and learn from. One good example is Dr. Nicholas Barr, aka the guy who came up with the idea for student finance.

LSE has a nice campus in the center of London. While it is not a big area, it is very well integrated into the entire city. The academic experience is excellent in LSE, where I am able to get a top-notch education from well known professors in the field I am studying in.

Low student satisfaction however I believe the experience is what you make of it. In order to truly benefit from going to university I had to become proactive. Joining sports and societies really helped boost my social life. Also the heavy workload has, over time, helped me develop important organisational and time management skills.

For a university with really low student satisfaction I’d have to say I consider my experience an exception! LSE has been the toughest experience of my life but as a result it has taught me a lot about myself. I have able to really develop my time management and organisational skills in order to be able to survive the heavy load of work. I believe LSE may not advertise its services as much as it should, however if we as students take a little initiative we are able to discover the different career, social and mental wellbeing and SU services provided. I have found a true calling through studying my degree and have made friendships which I know will stay forever.

The services at LSE are very good and wide ranging and are in the centre of the London so therefore appeals to all those who attend the university. There are also many groups and groups of people on the campus which is also a good benefit I suppose.

Really good. LSE has been ranked the best place in the UK to study Economics and Media & Communications in the latest QS World University Rankings by Subject. Within the Social Science discipline, the 2015 rankings place LSE in the top eight of nine subject areas and second in the world for Geography in the Natural Sciences discipline, behind the University of Oxford.

There is very low support from staff during the course but the course content is stimulating enough for self encouragement

Campus under construction... never saw campus in its best status - it was always under construction. They offer one to one career services and hold a lot of career fair but this is usually limited to consulting or banking. Students are very career-driven, that internship is treated more important than school life. There are various society from sport activities to student forum.

The course is very hard, and the buildings are constantly undergoing development! It is very noisy on campus and quite hard to study. building works have also meant campus is smaller, and a lot harder to get from A to B.

I am based in the anthropology department of the LSE and I cannot speak highly enough of them. My department is amazingly attentive, involved and genuinely seems to care about all of our wellbeings. However, the LSE as a whole is pretty bureaucratic, where you are treated as a statistic and not as an individual. Whilst it is true that uni is what you make it, and I have definitely made the most of the LSE, a large part of the reason I have enjoyed it is because I spend a great proportion of my time complaining about the LSE. Thankfully everyone else is always complaining so is happy to listen to me!

Office hours are productive, there is help widely available. However, class teaching isn’t the best especially with maths which makes it necessary to go to office hours.

My university is one to go to purely for the name. Coming out of LSE will be the best thing for your future career but the student experience itself is poor, as shown by student satisfaction rates. You get very little help, in fact I’d say you go to lectures to find out what you need to learn then you have to go away and teach yourself. If you’re unhappy or failing in any way they offer little support and guidance.

Great people. Really great. Absolutely fantastic. I can't stress how great they are. Terrific really. When I first came here I thought hmm are these people great? And you know what. They were great. Seriously. It's a great place

Great reputation for employers but lives up to its reputation to have really bad teaching. Students figure everything out themselves and teachers are not helpful.
